First & Foremost Mod for AT

Considering all possible options, what should actually be the first modification for an auto 8?

DJRx8:

I'd read up on the threads regardings mods for the AT. I personally went with a Borla exhaust. Probably did not increase HP by much, but added a nice sound to the rotary engine. I also installed and now have removed a CZ unit. If properly tuned, can increase HP on the AT. I can really feel the CZ unit from 4K RPM and above.

Biggest HP increase is the turbo install. Read up on that if you have the $$$ and time.

Technically, my first mod was getting a radar detector, then extending a speaker from the radar detector to the rotor accent thing on the seat. That way, its right behind my head and I can hear it over the sub I installed next. :D

My first real mod for my car was the new K&N Typhoon intake. It was a bit louder than I expected, but I'm getting used to it. The more I drive it, the more often I find myself going WOT to hear the sound!

I've began modifying everything else but performance--so far. I've got custom leather, custom 1/2" thick embroidered floor mats, leather shift boot with tan stiching, EBC Red brake pads, putting on slotted front brake rotors today, 6.5"Infinity Kappa Components in the front, 6x9 Infinity Reference 3 ways in the back, Infinity Kappa Perfect 10" sub, Alpine 5 channel amp, 1/2 farad capacitor, neon accent lights for that soothing glow that all the ladies are luvin'. I probably will go with the Racing Beat duct/intake and exhaust down the line. Before that I plan on getting the OEM dark chrome wheels. Once I finish professional school (hopefully dental school) then I plan on boosting it--by then there should be more options out there.

Wow! So many options!!!
As for me, I'm changing the exhaust first (I like the borla sound too, but unfortunately here in Thailand we don't have it). I'd like to try on the K&N intake as well, but... is it worth it? I mean, besides from the engine noise increase!

Ok guys... let's set up a scenario...

Let's say u just got a brand new AUTO 8 out today. With about $2k left in your wallet to spend, what would be your 1st choice of modification that's REALLY worth the money?

hmm--I'd probably do all racing beat stuff and perhaps nitrous if you are trying to get power per dollar. Otherwise I'd save it till I had enough to turbocharge it (if you aren't concerned about your warranty).

sway bars of your manufacturers choice, there are a few out there. if you are into handling, they make a tremendous impact on the handling aspect of the car.

And then, driving lessons, track days or something of that nature, to teach you how to drive the car at the limit, before you upgrade the car too much.

Best Mods for under $2k

I've added The following for about $1600:

1) Racing Beat Intake
2) Racing Beat Cold Air Duct
3) Racing Beat Exhaust
4) Racing Beat Front Sway Bar
5) Modified Rear Sway Bar

I have really enjoyed all the modifications. The performance is better and the sound is great. The sway bars have really worked. I would recommend all of these changes!

2 grand=wheels and tires lol Actually, I'd do suspension work, 2k would pick up one heckuva coilover setup, maybe leave enough for sways and possibly an intake :)

Oil cooler :(

The RB Cold Air Duct (just put on Monday) MPG is better.
CZ helps like My10AE said.
And then suspension mods.

For Relibility RP ATF and a ATF oil cooler.

Wheels & Tires make the car. Do the perfomance stuff and hacking of the interior after the warrenty is up, or at least wait until you break in the new engine/driveline and get used to the car.

DreRX8 10-14-2005 07:54 AM

Yeah--I'd go wheels/tires first. My very first mod was the leather shift boot--then the custom leather interior.

lsujim 10-14-2005 07:35 PM

I don't necessarily agree. Wheels, tires, interior upgrades are great but completely different than performance related upgrades. The performance upgrades I made didn't make the car look any better but it definitely handles and performs much better.

It's just a matter of whether you want to invest money making the car look better or perform better.
