Faster shifts

Hey everyone...my first post...

ok time for the question, i know what many is going to say, get a manual, but i got tired of that when i had my srt-4...so i have an automatic and i love it!! but i noticed that shifting is kinda slugish when using the paddles...does anyone have anything out there to help out with this...i know it will never be an f1 car, but i am hoping faster then flip the paddle, wait 2 secs then shift....thanks for your help!!!

btw, i did search, and google too...no luck!

The way you drive it will also determine how it shifts, even if you are in manual, if you just cruise around town it's not going to be lightning quick. If you start driving it hard, pushing the revs to the redline or more consistently in a short perios of time then it will get much more responsive. Also do you rev match your downshifts? It couldn't hurt.

thanks for all the help, i guess truely it is a no answer....no device to help, from what i know of autos, seems like fluid pressure and the elec part of it...so tweaking of both to get what you want, and it always equals more heat of some type...either way, i enjoy the car...thanks again for your help!

Contact Rotary Performance in texas. They told me they knew of someone who built a shift kit for the AT.

I have noticed that 1st to 2nd is a bit more solid than 2nd to 3rd. I get slipping in the trans at higher RPM's in 2nd to 3rd. It revs before it shifts.
The EMS will recognize your driving habits and conform shifting to them. I always drive in manual mode and shift at 5000 rpm. Consistently doing this will make your shift points a bit more solid.
I have often thought of taking the 1st/2nd solenoid/stem out and sticking it in he 2nd/3rd spot and see if it will make 2nd to 3rd any better. I'll have to do some research on this though.
I have heard that someone had a shift kit for the AT, just not sure who and whether it's available.
Another option is to switch to either Redline ATF or Royal Purple ATF. Improved shifting has been seen from this option.

I know of two major a/t companies that are "now working on" a shift kit for the 4 speed and only one that is working on the 6 speed. Also Ray has it on his back burner for a future BHR offering.

Level10 have a upgrade kit. I wouldn't call it a "shift kit" around $4k
Superior-Transmission.com has a kit for the 8. part # PR234 $100
It's only listed for the 3rd gen 7 but I called and I was told that it was tested on an 8.

There was a transmission thread around here somewhere...:scratchhe

Dave,

Any idea exactly what that part does? Do you have a direct link to it? Can't seem to find it when browsing their website...

Thanks!

Hey lilturbo,
I currently own an SRT-4. I love the car, but after 5 years, I'm considering changing to an auto RX-8. Like you, I'm tired of constantly shifting the truck-like tranny on the SRTs, especially in city rush hours.
How do you like the 8? Do you regret the change? I do like the torque of the Dodge, but I've always loved the look of the 8s. A test drive convinced me it's a smooth machine. But I wonder if I'll miss the power of the SRT-4? Do you?
Oh yeah, my first post!
