F.I. 4 port ????

I need some help here, and I am sick of hearing people say sell the A/T and purchase the manual. What information do you guys have on the Esmeril turbo kit vs. the Pettit Racing S/C? My main concerns are as follows
1. How much of an increase can the stock torque converter/ transmission handle?
2. Does anyone have any true dyno results of either on the 4 port?
3. do you guys think it is worth it?
I am still trying to decide if it is worth my time to invest into this project .

I went ahead and deleted my posting as I was not as nice as you are. O9 Factor, Easy E1 and I have posted in several spots about this. I would have been happier if he would have just searched a little or shown that he has and asked a direct question. Oh well it's Monday morning

09Factor 10-26-2009 10:52 AM

I like theads like this.

I have my dyno posted in this thread post #2.
https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...42&postcount=2
Mine stops @ 55xx because the fuel pump couldn't keep up, (ie, bad pump).

Is FI worth it? just like Ray said, what are you expectations? Is it a daily driver that passes Id10t's with ease or a track car that hold it's own against STI's and EVO's?

You not nice? Oh come on Phil...

mscamp02 10-26-2009 10:59 AM

I read a really good FI AT thread a while back with someone who posted high results from his A/T (with dyno sheet). So if you dont half ass it and you are well aware of all of the costs of FI then I would say go for it

Is this the kinder, gentler Phil? You're getting soft in your old age. :lol2:

mscamp02 10-26-2009 11:26 AM

Yes let the BHR guys who know their stuff get this rolling

Phil's 8 10-26-2009 11:29 AM

Well here are the 4port results based upon each style of FI
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/highest-horsepower-dynos-sc-turbo-nitrous-post-them-here-180037/page13/

Here are my charts:
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-specific-performance-mods-97/fi-4-port-dyno-results-183440/

Unless someone with better results has not posted, my four port a/t with a Pettit s/c, installed by BHR and tuned by MM seems to be on the top of the 4port heap but I am sure not for long. 09 Factor is on the last leg of his new system.

Oh Ray beat me to the posting and he was so nice that I just could not tell the guy what I wanted to. He posed a few threads up from my thread on my dyno sheets and just above 09 Factors thread.

I must be getting mellow in my old age................................Naw just out of respect for my bald headed friend.

mscamp02 10-26-2009 12:11 PM

^hahaha still might be better than most though

You might be right as you are the first person to install a Pettit s/c in kit form direct from the manufacturer. Since you have been thru all the trials and tribulations with this set up I'm sure you would have nothing to say.......NOT:lol2:

God i hope so. I think most of us here are adults......physcially. Mentally is up for debate.

Lemme suggest one rule; we will NOT discuss airflow in terms of "manifold boost".
Agreed. Lbs of flow over psi. Example (Drirected at general reading populace), My 12psi does not equal Phil's 12 psi.

Very nice. last leg fur sure, but we are not competing with each other. Just boils down to what can be possible with different technology. Always a Win-Win

You're like a fine aged cheese. keep your sharp wit though.

The place to start with any kind of advice that is requested is to ask the OP what his desires/expectations are and the type of driving he will be doing. 99% of the driving we do is street driving. Even the weekend tracker will be no less than 80% street driving. This means that none of us are the "Jerry Racecar Driver" we think we are most of the things we read/hear about the parts we "need" is flat-out bullshit. To have an honest view of one's needs will save one a LOT of money and headache.

+1

Competition is not bad but you are correct we are not competing.....I expect that someone with a four port will do 300+ horsepower and hope that it's one of us. Both of us have put enough love, time and money into our 8s.

You know that I have had several peeps PM me and ask about going FI and I always refer them to you for turbo information. There seem to be so few of us FId four ports. I guess cuz most have been told that they can't get any or very little improvement in horsepower.

Oh, I could not get post #3 to open with the link.

Wonder why the OP has not returned???

I think it's Ray in disguise.

Yup, you could be correct. It takes a lot of disguising for him :)

Huntsvillerotary8 10-27-2009 04:17 PM

Sorry guys my name is not "Ray" just someone looking for some advice on the Esmeril turbo Kit. I am assuming no one has placed this on a 4 port yet though

that turbo would be a very bad fit for the 4port IMO .
You would have a very narrow powerband , as the turbo only starts spooling at around 5000rpm .

We are having fun at your expense with a friend. No one I know of has a Esmeril kit. I could be wrong but they are having problems with engine management. Most out here have Greedy turbos some with MM upgrades and Pettit s/c. If Esmeril is what your after you may have to ask them if anyone has purchased one. They still use the Interceptor X and that engine management system does not work well with our trannys. The AP is the only way to go for us. Your allowed to tell me I'm wrong but I have had the X, a Greedy and now the AP and can speak with experience. Turbos are not my bag so you will have to ask 09Factor about them. If your interested in a frank discussion on each of the systems, ask Charles (Ray) Hill and the rest of us can chime in.
