Check automatic transmission fluid in 2009

Ok. I give up. How do I check the automatic transmission fluid in my 2009?

nuke0907 07-14-2009 07:57 PM

dipstick.

I would also read the manual.

EDIT: I just downloaded the 2009 manual and it makes no mention of how to check the fluid in the AT. I find that very strange, the only mention is this line on page 10-5 "Check oil and fluid levels with dipsticks or reservoir gauges" I guess the plural use of the word dipstick implies there can be more than one?? As for the OP question I would PM ASH8, he has a 2009 and is very knowledgeable in all things RX-8 related.

if i recall, the only changes is the oil filter relocation and the dipstick itself which means the ATF dipstick location does not change, still the same...

And where would dipstick be located? Thank you expo1--had read manual and a pdf download as well as searched engine compartment with no success.

I don't recalling the 09's having a dipstick. I thought it was a rubber plug in the pan and then a threaded plug above that. .

I think the ATX dipsticks went away in 2006.

That sounds like a pretty good description of what is shown here in the 2007 rx-8 shop manual:

There is no dipstick on the newer models of the Rx8. I'm pretty sure they stopped on 06 like you said, but to change the transmission fluid you must fin the drain plug on the bottom of the transmission and then right above it is the fill plug. Take them both out to drain the fluid the fastest, once it is drained you replace the filter and then put the drain plug back in. After that is completed you have to have something the pump the new transmission fluid in through the fill plug. Fill it till it starts to overflow and then put the fill plug back in and then clean up around it. That is how you properly change the transmission fluid in a newer model Rx8. Hope this helps.
