Changing the rev limiter
I have just recently reflashed my car and had the rev limiter changed to 8,500rpms is that okay to be pushing that high when racing? Or could I even go Higher. Thanks

Is your car auto?
edit: didn't know this was in the at specific section, so disregard post. |
I forget who i spoke with, but it isnt a good idea. Shifting past normal points is hard in the tran.
They also pointed out that the tranny might end up in my lap. |
Phil has experimented some with this. I know you can change the rev limit with the Interceptor. At the very least, I'd put in a good synthetic fluid before trying this. If you have the 4-port, I wouldn't go above 8000. The map on my interceptor was set at 8500, and when it would hit the rev limiter and shift, the rpms would shoot up above 9000 and it wouldn't shift until I lifted and the rpms fell back down. It was like the tranny disengaged and refused to reengage at those high rpms. I set mine back to 7500 to be safe.

I have a 6spd auto and I have already hit the 8,500 and it seems to be fine, just really loud. I am using the castrol oil requested by Mazda. Is that okay?
