Cai

I just recently put a CAI on my 8 and I love the whining noise it makes lol it sounds like I'm boosted haha. But one question, is it supposed to make that whine? Like when i stop suddenly the idle drops and catches and idles fine but sometimes it would die but starts right back up fine... And ideas why it does that?

invasion08 11-05-2010 06:26 PM

what cai do you have?

Mazurfer 11-05-2010 06:31 PM

As Invasion asks................what you got and let's see a couple of pics!

If you just put it on, did you do any resets afterwards or just throw it on?

Josh.miller 11-05-2010 06:49 PM

I just threw it on..

Chris 11-05-2010 07:01 PM

two things... did you cap off the vacuum lines?

and be sure to do a ecu reset

Mazurfer 11-05-2010 07:03 PM

Good point about vacuum lines....if he removed the VFAD???????

Do the E-shaft sensor reset:

Turn the car to on but not start, then you have to tap the brake pedal pretty quickly until the oil gauge sweeps to the right and then back to the left. Once it does that, you know you got the ESS(Eccentric Shaft Sensor) reset.
If it doesn't work, turn the car off, wait a few seconds and repeat it again.
Keep an eye on the oil gauge while you do this and watch for it to sweep. You gotta tap pretty quickly but not hard(only enough for the brake lights to come on), and it may take 20-25 times until it sweeps.

You still didn't say what this cai is.....................if you can tell us what it is and what all you did, we might be able to help. If it's a pice of crap, we will surely tell you! There are certain ones that don't work very well at all. Most only change the intake for sound, no real performance gain. Actually.......a lot of times there is a loss!

Josh.miller 11-06-2010 10:42 AM

Actually there is a really big performance gain with my intake and u would be
surprised what it is... It's a spectre intake Lmaooo and it works awesome when it hits 4k it's gets deeper and pulls like crazy and sounds good with my catless magnaflow exhaust

Post pictures and a dyno chart. I'm swinging the BS hammer

Josh.miller 11-08-2010 09:54 AM

Lol I never gotten a dyno chart haha but i really feel the difference. I'll post up pics soon

He has a 4 port auto so no VFAD.

Please post some pics of it, I should have checked it out at the meet. I am sure it is awesome

Gone a little off topic but in aswer to your question I think it is normal for the first few weeks for the idle to be shaky that's what happened to me when I installed mine until the ecu adjusted

fyrstormer 11-10-2010 02:41 PM

My Passat took a couple days to stop idling at 2000rpm after I cleaned the edges of the throttle valve, so a significant change in idle airflow can have an effect. Generally speaking, though, it shouldn't make the engine die like that. Does your CAI use an oiled air filter? If so, the initial burst of excess oil coming off the filter might have contaminated the MAF sensor and screwed up the airflow readings.

In any event, whatever your ears and butt might be telling you, your car already has a CAI so the gains are not significant. CAIs are usually louder and deeper-toned though, so yeah, if that's what you wanted, you got it.
