6spd AT pushing 9krpms
 

Hey all, Ive mentioned before that ive recently reflashed my 6sp Auto and bumped the rev limiter to 9k where I had a HUGE power gain. I see no difference in power between the MT now. I was wondering if i should be doing anything to help out on the stress of my tranny.

How did you flash it? What did you use?

I would add another tranny cooler. Heat is the number one killer when it comes to the A/T. Also change your tranny fluild.

Im a Local in West Palm Beach FL so Pettit racing hooked me up with the reflash they use for there SC its called "EFI Dude." What do you mean by change the tranny fluids how often or with a different fluid? Sry if that's a noob question and ill try and get a video for you all soon.

I would replace the tranny fluid with a synthetic fluild or your liking. And if you plan on hitting 9k a lot i would flush and replace around every 30k

If you have around 1k just sitting around i would contact level ten or another transmission shop and upgrade your torque converter and get a higher stall speed. Level ten can do a custom torque converter for your set up

The BHR radiator for AT transmissions has a larger transmission cooler built in. If you are going to rev to 9000 a lot you are probably going to need that.

i thought shifting over 8k makes ur tranny land in ur lap. :D


also read somewhere that cobb AP can do similar things. what's the highest it can go?

I think the Renesis can hit 16k RPM safely, but the tranny just won't cut it.

16k rpm!!! are you serious? I know it can hit more than a piston engine because it have no inertia, also 16k rpm might not be the peak hp or peak tq. but if the tranny is the problem, then give it to level 10 and have them beef it up. I think its more sense around 12k rpm

Not true at all. There are several problems of bumping the RPM's up more than it already is. One problem would be the power already has a significant drop at 8,500 RPM so it would be useless. Other problems would be lubrication issues and at some point possible E-shaft issues.

Ive had no problems with my tranny Ive bumped my redline to a "safe" 8k with accesport no issues, it really helps the mods on it come to life....beforehand i always felt like i hit the limit before the car would come to life, i was right. I am extremely tempted to bump up to 8.5K as it is i can hit low 50s in first gear. Before temptation hits i am going to get a tranny cooler its a reasonably priced insurance for the tranny

There are two potential issues/areas you will need to be wary of when running high RPMs and A/Ts. 1) Internal pressures in the torque converter can get very high and racing/performance converters have what are called "anti-ballooning plates" built into them. These "plates" prevent the converter case from bulging outward when the internal pressures get too high. 2) Furnace-brazed fins on the impeller, stator (one-way clutch), and turbine. These three parts are what the fluid flows across and, thus, they bear the heat and torque generated by the engine. Furnace-brazing assures that none of the fins breaks off during peformance use.

Level Ten may be able to take care of you on the converter and BHR is the ONLY place (to my current knowledge) where you can get an upgraded radiator for the A/T models that also includes a much larger tranny cooler section built-in. PM me if you wanna discuss the radiator.

Going to a higher stall speed isn't always suggested as that depends on your driving intentions and torque curve of the engine. However, Level Ten may be able to set up the stall speed and flash speeds differently. That's what used to be called a "Saturday Night Special" torque converter and I had one in my '70 Nova.

the stock ecu is limited to 10k rpms its lock is unchangeable.....

www.levelten.com I have level tens custom performance transmssion with there upgraded torque converter and it is a very streetable transmission while cruising around town and a beast when you step on it.

Anyone hear of the s2k that can hit 10,500 rpm? I don't see why a majorly modified (new lube system stronger, lighter internals) Renesis without a tranny/ecu limit can't hit that?

going over 9k is useless unless you need an extra second before you shift or something.
