4AT : ATF cooler or Engine Oil Cooler?

This is confusing. when i browse throught japanparts.com i found that the MAzdaspeed oil cooler is only for MT. i wonder why.

What should be a more accurate mod for Auto car? ATF cooler or Engine Oil cooler?

How would these mods effect or auto car?

]What brand there is for these 2?

I would go OEM. I have a AT and have 2 OEM Oil Coolers on my car that the Mazda guys put in when they replaced my Engine.

hi there, how did they connect your oil cooler ? is it just like the one mazdaspeed?

The 6MT here in the States comes with a passenger side oil cooler. They just use the parts from the US 6MT.

hi there, the website that sells the oil cooler, and its say for MT. dunno wether it means MT extra oil cooler or for MT. should be ok for AT car rite? please check for me, thx.

I ordered the mazdaspeed cooler and crossover lines here in Japan and when Mazda went to install them the AT cooler lines to the raidiator where in the way of the cross over oil lines so they refused to install it. Couple of slight bends in the lines would have solved the problem, but they wouldn't do it... For this reason I'm hoping that the engine goes somtime next summer while it's still under warrenty and then I'll install one myself after I get the new engine and the warrenty expires.

Also for future referance the Mazda Speed oil cooler is a slightly larger oil cooler than the stock MT one and it is sold as an upgrade to the MT cooler only.

From what I read, you can/should do both.

Does anybody have pics or suggestions on where/how you would do both ( ATF cooler and Engine Oil cooler)???

I removed the fender and from bumper. At first I just had one on the driver side. Now it looks like they used the one from the MT on the passanger side and installed it on my car and now I have 2.

i had installed a MS oil cooler for my 4AT, i am annoyed by the hot gear knob and is it wise to install a fan near the ATF cooler? cause i don't wanna disturb the oem one cause its running on pressure.

DOMINION 09-12-2006 01:38 AM

Fan near the ATF cooler? I think they are air cooled, right?

theboy 09-12-2006 02:59 AM

ATf cooler is at the bottom of the radiator, but the fan is not focusing on the atf cooler, its on the aluminium fents, well the bad thing is the ATf cooler doesn't seem getting much help from the aluminium fents. damn thats bad. went through it once again with my mechanic who has a lot of experience with japanese car. and he say nothing else can help unless can get a long oil cooler. damn! no fan!

Does anyone know if you can use the greddy oil cooler instead of this mazda one? Or just any other one since I really want to put another oil cooler on.

theboy 09-12-2006 06:31 PM

yes u can, but u would have to do the braket and hose yourself, the MS one is plug and use.

kowzan5 09-12-2006 07:36 PM

How was the install for the mazdaspeed oil cooler hard or pretty easy?

theboy 09-13-2006 04:24 AM

its was pretty easy just for the cooler... despite the difficulty of taking off the bumper.
