0-60 question

Okay so my AT does 0-60 in a little over ten seconds on a good day. For some reason that seems a little slow even for an AT. what are your 0-60 times, mine is an 05 with just a k and n drop in

ZumnRx8 01-31-2010 10:05 PM

LOL- im not going to say nothing... ill let the Pirahnnas do thier job. :scared:

450rrider14 01-31-2010 10:16 PM

wow i didn't know piranha know anything about cars. Just one question, without hands how can they type?

ZumnRx8 01-31-2010 10:20 PM

^You'll see

450rrider14 01-31-2010 10:23 PM

haha alright sounds good

ZumnRx8 01-31-2010 10:30 PM

answer: ATs are slow as hell, i have 1, 4 port especially, there is no point in comparing 1/4 mile times or 0-60.... too many variables. Its the reason Im going Turbo this month :). It sounds like 0-60 time is what it is though  You wanna know if your car is slow because it feels like it lost power? GET A COMPRESSION TEST!

edit: or clogged CAT

450rrider14 01-31-2010 10:36 PM

lol alright thank you. Ill test the compression in the morning. Thanks for the answer.

REDRX3RX8 01-31-2010 11:00 PM

:)0-60
My 07 6spd auto gets it in approx 7 sec by stomping gas while in gear. It'll feel even quicker when I put on 225/40r18 tires to lower final gearing 3.3%.

RyansRx8 01-31-2010 11:22 PM

I did a run it was high 6's and low 7's...why does everything say our 0-60 time is like 5.8 or around there...is that with the stig driving it? lol

450rrider14 02-01-2010 12:23 AM

could a compression problem also contribute to a long starting process? My car starts first try but it seems to take about 2 to three seconds longer than any other rx8 manual or auto that i have started up.

ZumnRx8 02-01-2010 12:38 AM

^yup

REDRX3RX8 02-01-2010 12:39 AM

RyansRx8,
Because the normal test time for 6spd AT is about 7.1 sec. The 5.8 could be achieved with a manual 6spd especially if you're good with the clutch and right tires.
Ok, yeah, you got a clutch, you're in the wrong forum.:eyetwitch

450rrider14 02-01-2010 02:04 PM

So i just left the dealership and they will not even take a look at the compression or anything unless the check engine light is on. I'm college right now and don't have access to a good garage so i guess im stuck for a while. Come on Mazda.

ZachLegend 02-01-2010 02:10 PM

5.8 is the MT.

But 10 seconds?! Oh my GAWDDD

Kpoc 02-01-2010 02:55 PM

5.8 is the MT time but according to the article I read that was also done @ 6k poping the clutch for the launch. I don't know about some of you but I would also think your clutch has about 5 of these starts in it before it self destructed. but as this is the AT forum who cares.

at 10 seconds im over 80mph.

i know a few auto guys (6 port, 2006+) have run 16 flat in the 1/4. the 330 foot is generally around 60mph, i've done it in 6 flat. so if you can find an auto rx8s drag slip, you can see some data.

i ran a 16 flat. I dont have the timeslip. When it dries ill hit the track again.

10 seconds is slow, thats around the number I was getting right when my 1st motor crapped out. Good luck though.

----on a side note I recently "launched" my Rx8 a bit different than most AT owners say they do. It might be a placebo like effect but I feel that it climbs to 60 a bit faster.

1. While stationary turn traction control off.

2. while in manual more (still stationary) paddle shift into 2nd gear.

3. Hold the brake and build the revs to 2.25K it should be easier to hold it while in second without the car lurching forward than in first.

4. With the revs built to 2.25K simultaneously release the brake, downshift to first (with paddle), and step on the accelerator.

----i don't know if it makes a difference compared to a standard AT launch, but it would be cool if other AT owners could try this out see if they feel a difference.

450rrider14 02-04-2010 11:54 AM

haha well thats not good news about the 1st motor. What actually was the cause for the failed motor? And ya ill try that later today and report back

450rrider14 02-05-2010 12:59 AM

so that starting technique felt like i had a little more torque off the line, but that was very shortly stopped with a drop in rpms. It was just a slight drop but it was enough to keep my 0-60 practically the same

Somethings wrong, I'm usually in 3rd gear climbing past 70 in 10 seconds.

edit: this would be a real awesome place for a F&F joke

10 seconds is slow, thats obvious. I'm sure you want to know to know how the car funtions as a road driver right? problem is, these 13b's are no where near as torquey as they were in the RX7s. Torque is what gets you off the line- you probably know that, i'm not tryin to lecture or teach. Problem is these cars are powerful in the upper rpm range. the reason a MT is faster off the line is the ability to dump the clutch. YOU have the advantage of a consistent shift. The only REAL- and thats not to diagnose your engine in any, way, shape or form- problem you have is a 1000k sheered redline compared to an MT and a rated 200hp. I wouldn't recomend neutral bombing it- thats always bad juju. Ever seen a burnout comp? RWDs remove the rear brakes, line lock the front and gas it. You should be able to do that, revving the engine anywhere from 4-6 grand and releasing the brakes. Just an opinion and just a thought. Those tires need to spin, ya know? i would think you should lauch hard off the line that way. And for those with MTs I've hit high 6's low 7's with a launch at 5500. You're not gonna explode a clutch after 5 drags. Mazda wanted these cars to be economical yet able to tear up the track in a fun enough way. the clutch that comes with the car is fine, ever wonder why mazda doesn't offer a performance clutch kit? The stock one is fine. anyway, thats not the purpose of this thread. My opinion- check your plugs, wire, coils. Check/ change your oil, filter. Run the highest octane you can. Avoid fuel and oil additives and carefully, carefully decide whether or not to take mazdas word about synthetic oils. Personally I wont use synthetic oils regardless of what Royal Purple claims. And 18" wheels are hard to turn.
