What is the GReddy "Acceleration Map?"

Why is it not discribed in the instructions and why has it not been discussed here?

I am having a strange issue during acceleration. I should note that I am running the greddy turbo with maddog's severed injector mod with a modified version of his map (#13)

The issue is that intermitantly during acceleration, I will get bogs caused by rich mixture. I noticed, using the E-01 tracking, and using the emanage support tool, that the emanage was accessing map cells in the fuel maps for MAX RPM when I was no where near 6000 RPM even. Interestingly, on the support tool, I see spurous RPM spikes that correlate with emanage accessing high rpm cells. More interestingly, I do NOT see these spikes on the E-01 despite the fact that the two access the RPM sig from the same place. (THANKS Rkostolni!!!!!!!!)

I was wracking my brain to try and figure out what might be causing this and I was brousing the E-01 and the support tool. I noticed another map and tried to look up info on it in the manuals. NO INFO ON THE ACCELERATION MAP! Why? And what does it do.

So I did a data log run or two, and I noticed that when I get those spurious spikes, that the Accel map accesses non-zero cells! Is this the cause of my spikes or is this a result??

Please help!

Its key purpose is to richen up the fuel upon rapid acceleration to help stop the leaning out before the ecu catches up.

I was having problems with detonation that this new tune map has helped a lot with, a tuning company did the tune for me but I'm having problems with it dumping too much fuel. It's causing the car to bog down with a fast gear change and 100% throttle straight after.

I've posted a screenshot here:

What I'd like to understand is what it measures the rapid change in throttle against, according to the map it'll measure a change from 5% to 40%. Is that constant or will the changes take affect only if you change throttle within a certain amount of time?
I need to clean it up, as you can see with the screen shot the tuner just copied the same value across the range for most of the map which I think is wrong.

I'm guessing this is much like the accerator pump on a carb. When there is a large change in throttle position with respect to time (ie: you stomp on the gas) then extra fuel is inserted for a period of time. Most EFI systems ramp down the acceleration enrichment over a period of about 1 second.

Well thanks for all the replies. Dont all post at once! Just because I cant sleep thinking about this doesnt mean you guys have to stay up all night too, posting all these replys!:p:

Ok, so based on the very limited amout of info that I could get on the web and in archived versions of this forum, I think I under stand the intent of the acceleration map. It is simply there to dump fuel when you have rapid throttle changes. This is EXACTLY what I am seeing. So the way they did it was to just add a multiplication factor to the measured RPM at specific rpm ranges vs. changes in TPS with respect to time. Hence, my observed RPM spike and fuel dump.

My only concern now is to under stand the units associated with this map, specifically the column axis units and the units of the numbers associated with the cells. I think what I will do, is just set most of the cells to zero, especially, those near the top of the map. This is where I was tracing activity. I will leave the others alone.

Gotta go to bed. gah.... <-that's me trying to sleep, tossing an turning thinking about my car.

Dude, you didn't get any replies in 45 minutes after posting the question in the middle of the night? People must really hate you!

Looks like you answered it yourself for the most part.

Ok. Amazing what 4 hours of sleep will do.

I got this crazy idea. Could we tap the analog out WB02 signal from the LC-1 and run it in on the TPS signal line (which I really dont know where that is) into the emanage, then some how "trick" the Acceleration map (which looks for rates of change right now, that would have to be changed) into providing that extra protective fuel right when you need it, at high boost and high afr, like a safety net?

Well, hooking it to the accel map wouldn't be very effective.
However, there is a hack out there that ties the TPS input to the add injection map for that purpose - it gives the blue E-Manage auto-tune capabilities.
It probably wouldn't work very well on the RX-8.
