Turbo with dual wastegagte question

I just trying to see if anyone a tried running a dual wastegate setup and if so what difference in performance would we see by running them.

the only reason to do this would be to achieve lower boost... what kind of psi are looking to achieve?

If you are running some large turbo on this motor then maybe consider it, but if you are running a greddy kit with a stock greddy turbo you are only seeing 8-9psi (safely) and there would be zero reason to have a dual wastegate setup.

On a single turbo setup you only run dual wastegates if one isn't enough.

Chris 11-12-2012 08:34 AM

exactly what I said, so if you have a lot of boost and need to get lower boost then you will use 2 wastegates.

example... you make 20lbs of boost and only want 9 but your wastegate can only get you down to say 14lbs, you then add another wastegate to get even lower..... OR you buy a better wastegate to begin with.

The real reason is how quick the reaction times are of a small wastegate are vs a bigger one or a twin setup.
You may need more venting abilities sooner on a setup that's pushing a lot of air and exhaust. Even a small wastegate will probably do the trick... but how long will it take? Generally, on rotaries... enough to blow the engine :)

....to the OP, what turbo are you running? Are you even pushing enough boost to warrant a large wastegate or dual wastegates?

im plannng on runnng a GTX35r, the only reason why i ask is because i know RX7's run a single turbo and at times they have two wastegates on them.

You need to do some research man.

IMO that's too big to be practical for a Renesis . Seeing as 300whp is about all that you can do reliably with any turbo .

Chris 11-14-2012 02:21 PM

a lot of people push up the psi on a rew motor, not something that can reliably be done on the renesis (currently). with the rx8 you will not need dual wastegates as you shouldnt be using a turbo oversized/overpowered for the application.

realize that bigger isnt always better

Oh boy.

Lol honestly it's been a while since I even spoken with them. I can say they do good engine work.

you don't need to add a second WG. get a Tial 44, plumb it in and be done already with your project.
