Turblown rebuild and port job on my 8 idiocy?

I happen to live within 20 miles of Turblown and was pretty stoked when I heard how close they were and about them designing a turbo set up. Now I want to do a NA tune (yes I know it's not worth it but I am) anyways part of the build is an engine ported to the max it can be while remaining streetable/reliable. Unfortunately I hadn't been on here in a while and suddenly I am finding some bad reviews about those guys... mostly to do with the turbo kits BUT do you think having em port and rebuild the engine is a bad move? If not should I just go with Pettit? any other recommendations?
Only reason I ask is it would save a fair amount of time and money if a local guy could do the work instead of having to yank the engine send it off, get it worked on, shipped back and then reinstalled.
Thanx

If you searched, you would quickly realise that you should steer well clear of Turblown

I'm not sticking up for the wrongs they did but you may be less likely to have a bad experiences being so close that you can just show up to see how the work is going at any given time.

Now whether it is moral to support a shop that has done people wrong without recourse or reparation to try to make things right is up to you.

They're slooooooow shipping stuff. Since you can go there and pick it up i doubt they'll mess it up.

getting it rebuilt properly is more important than porting (which I personally discourage if engine life is important to you)

but their workmanship is fucking shit

You can always ship your car over to Pettit instead of yanking the engine, Cam Jr told me they get cars sent to them from all over the U.S for engine work.
I don't know how much it would cost to send your car to Florida and back but it might be easier and not much more expensive than paying a shop to pull your engine, crate it up and ship it to Florida.

^^

yeah, you don't know

Boeuf 12-22-2012 09:44 PM

I'm assuming that means a lot? I've never had to ship a car so I don't have a clue. I'm guessing six to seven hundred dollars?
What does it cost to have your engine pulled, a couple hundred dollars? Then ship the motor, how much more expensive is it to ship a car?

TeamRX8 12-23-2012 01:56 PM

from MN to FL, more than that each way

then the motor still has to be taken out and put back in, they don't do it for free

Boeuf 12-23-2012 07:20 PM

That's a little expensive on top of the actual engine work.

Out of curiosity how much will it shorten the lifespan of the engine?? I am hoping to make 220 at the wheels eventually. (along with weight reduction)

Stay away from Turblown, just read the low mount thread. Myself and three others got jerked around by Elliot. There is absolutely no reason to take the risk and have Turblown rebuild your engine.
