Hey guys i saw the greddy turbo pics and im so syked about it ........im obviously gonnna wait to see if theres problems etc......but do u guyz think our motor is ment for boost in a way?????/or can handle it???????? i mean i just think back to the rx7 which came twin turbo.....so i highly doubt that our motor will not be able to handle 6 or 7 psi of sweet boost.......so let me know what u guyz think??????????? and does anyone have an estimate as to when the greddy kit will be released..............and also do we have to get a new bumper for the front mount?

1.Renesis was not designed to be boosted, but like any NA motor, it can handle low psi boost.

2.The internals of the FD Rx7's 13B-REW are different to our Renesis, so its not as simple as strapping two turbos on.

3.Greddy is hoping to get their kit on the market by Feb 05.

4.There is plenty of space between the front of you car and the radiator to install an intercooler, so most likely it will fit the OEM bar.

well it was not designed as an FI engine from the factory but various Mazda engineers/execs have stated that the renesis was built to take/handle boost.

1. Just like every other rotary up to present you have intake ports, spinning rotors, ignition, and exhaust. The Renesis internally is stronger than the 13B. How is this not designed for boost? Please don't say compression ratio. I don't buy that as a valid answer from ANYONE. Any engine can handle boost and usually more than everyone thinks. As I am so fond of saying over and over and over again, it all depends on the tuning. I've seen 9.7:1 compression 13B's make upwards of 500 rwhp with forced induction. Another .3 on the compression isn't going to do too bad. It will still get over 400 rwhp but again it's all in the tuning. On the plus side, the higher compression will allow better off boost response and faster turbo spool up time.

2. Since I just stated that the internals are essentially the same with the exception of the Renesis having stronger parts, I don't see what the issue is to just strapping turbos on it. So we have 3 exhaust ports vs 2 on the 13B. Big deal. The 20B's with their 3 exhaust ports came with twin turbos. There was nothing simple about the 3rd gen RX-7 turbo system. In fact, it's pretty damn hard not to be easier than that. You can just strap on a turbo to a lawnmower engine and make it work so the Renesis is no different. It's all in the tuning!

1.The Renesis was not originally designed as a FI motor from the factory, but like any NA engine, it can accept low boost.

2.Different exhaust port configuration means that it is not a simple case of strapping a single turbo or twin turbo onto the Renesis. As you say, it's all in the tuning.

Let me pose this question:

If it was so simple to strap a turbo onto the Rx8, why hasn't every bloke and his dog got one installed on their 8?

Partly price but mostly because of the ECU and it's invasiveness. It controls too much. It is harder to tune! It all goes back to that.

Precisely RG! That's why it's not a simple case of strapping a turbo onto the Renesis.

I'm just as keen as the next guy to see a reliable aftermarket turbo kit released with moderate power increase.

What are you thoughts on the Greddy kit?

I personally think it is the most comprehensive kit thus far and while not giving the 8 ball breaking power, it does give it a few more herbs.
