Thread much appreciated

This has been a great thread to read so far!!
Hopefully more can be added to this thread this year for the 4 Port and continue on to proven results!!

Just reread through this thread. I have 3 extra sets of 6port irons with some fairly decent condition housings sitting around. I have been contemplating a 'poverty' turbo build for a while. My main basis on this is that unless billet REW plates get cheaper, the Irons and housings are only going up in price. There are many rx8 plates that are from engines that simply went low compression or lost coolant seals.

Thoughts on running a 4 port intake to a 6 port engine? It looks like the mounting holes are the same, and the 4 port intakes are less than $50. From what I gather from the greddy turbo guys is that they block off the apv ports up at the UIM with a plate anyways. Then filling the apv ports up with some good ole JBweld. Now it would probably be safer to leave the ports untouched, but I think you could go machine through the Sec-APV bridge to change the Secondary port to whatever timing you want. Then lap the surfaces.

It probably makes more sense to use 4-port end irons with a 6-port center iron, but then you need the overseas MT rear iron that was never offered here. A new one from JP is about $600 shipped.

because regardless of what’s used for filling material, it’d be better to have iron plate material supporting the side seal there rather than devcon etc filling that has to be setback some into the port opening to collect gunk in the resulting depression, and it really needs to be sealed at the opening. The port filling itself can’t be relied on to not develop a small separation over time and then possibly leak to atmosphere without an outer cover plate.

It also makes more sense to have an intake manifold mounting plate made and fabricate an intake from tubing. I had never revealed that previously. It can be made to flow better and help overcome it inly being 4 ports. With a small turbo the resonance or open secondary ports are not a factor. Consider that all the single turbo REWs do it with larger open secondary ports, but then the mounting plate could be made to cover the APV openings to seal that off as well. I’d still prefer not to have filled APV ports.

Racing Beat sold a Renesis 4-port 4-bbl carb manifold, but now NLA. I looked but never found one. That would be a good option imo with a 4-bbl EFI style throttle body, and you could even stage the secondaries but maybe more trouble than it’s worth. As it’s just as easy to make one out of tubing and position the TB better to have the RH side area of the engine open for the turbo and piping like on an REW conversion.

f you’re really interested in it then maybe we can collaborate. I have a manifold design similar to the REW one that needs to be flushed out, but is otherwise easy to fabricate from laser cut flat sheet material rather than tubing/pipe. Along with eliminating the factory engine mount on that side too. The Pulsar G25 or G30 with IWG housing is a good candidate imo. It’s still not understood on here that full E85 fuel is going to offer a lot more boom-boom-zoom protection and power output than the lower E30 mixture when pushed hard.

Get it spooled up quick with 300+ ft-lbs down low and even with only 350 - 375 whp on the top end, it’d be a blast.

Makes even more sense to just use an appropriate sized turbo with a 6 port.......... and have the best possible top end without doing any of the above.

c’mon Minc, let’s do it. I have more than just words and ideas to contribute. :)

As my REW build finishes I am going to be keeping an eye out for another shitbox rx8 roller. Maybe keep tabs for a jdm 4 port engine and trans.

I have the transmission and more ;)
