T2 vs rx8 5 speed trans
are the bell housings any different ?
I'll explain if I really need. I have a fd with a 6speed swap . laying around in the shed I have a fd trans a rx8 6 speed and a rx8 5 speed. if I use the rx8 Bell on the fd trans I have a trans that's useless. But if a fc t2 Bell is the same as the 8 5 speed I'll just buy a bellhousing and keep the 8 trans intact as a back up |
You have to use both the RX8 5-spd bell and tail housing on the FD trans otherwise the shifter is not positioned properly in the chassis opening (not at all actually). The FD and 5-spd RX8 trans are identical otherwise. So they can be interchanged for 5-spd use.
The BH is integral on the RX8 6-spd trans so you’re stuck there. I’m not even really sure what you’re asking/saying. Is the FD trans without a BH because you used it on the FD 6-spd swap? Because you’re leaving it up to people to read your mind on that point. i can’t fathom what you want to do with the FC trans. The RX8 trans is too weak already, a weaker trans is a bad idea. It’s not just the BH either. The shifter position and PPF mount point have to all match up too. Sounds like you’re chasing mutant unicorns to me ... |
I was trying to figure out if there is any difference to the rx8 Bell and the FC t2 Bell.
I want to revert my fd back to 5 speed to have my interior clean oem again. I like the rx8/t2 clutch type. I hate the fd style. There's not anyone who makes shifter relocation for the rx8 6sp trans is there ? Anything Kinda Like the sikky stuff for ls and 2j |
Not that I know of. Mazda Motorsport sells the RX8 5-spd JDM BH new now for $310, but you can likely find a whole used transmission for not much more

Is the rx8 5 speed a straight swap into the six speed cars? Using the same oem clutch and PP from the six speed?
