Supercharger compatibility question

Could any supercharger be placed on the rx8 or does it have to be specifically for the RX8?
I know a guy here whos selling an Eaton M-110 supercharger off of a Jaguar V8 for $250... wondering if it would work and/or how much it would cost to get it to work

Wow.

If only it was this easy - everyone would be running superchargers.

3 problems. Mounting / fabrication. Volumetric efficiency over a large RPM range. Engine management. (ETCETRA!)

Please search some threads.

Start with this thread from Kane: Power Adders (FI) For Dummies (Turbo, Supercharger, Nitrous) https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/power-adders-fi-dummies-turbo-supercharger-nitrous-122645/

Hymee has a thread on his journey (over three years) to create a supercharger system for the RX-8. https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/hymee-gets-supercharged-part-2-a-36376/

Pettit has done similar engineering, and has produced a commercial supercharger system which many here are running.

DNA (sold by Mazdatrix) has a centrifugal supercharger system.

Others (most notably Richard Paul - an experienced supercharger engineer) - have spent years and $$$, and have been unsuccessful in adapting superchargers to the Renesis.

Read. Learn.

Well, I can tell you from first hand experience with fitting a blower in the RX-8 that that size ain't going to be easy. A 90 series model (like from the previous Cobalt SS) would be much better and can do 11-12psi. And with low boost applications a roots SC is just fine.

But let's put it this way...if you don't have access, and know how, with a lathe, milling machine and welder you won't get very far. And if you want to pay for the custom job...you'll wish you just bought from Pettit and called it a day.

oh, thanks for the info, before i bought the RX8 i had only worked on foxbody V8 mustangs and most of the superchargers for them or others are compatible with the carbeurators through small modifying. well, im glad i didnt waste the 250.

Moon has aquired the 2.1 displacement blower off the Mustang GT500 and is working on it now... I can pull up pics tonite but not really relevant if you cant a picture a blower just sitting on top the Rene proped up by a pair of scissors then let me know and I'll post the pics...

i dont mean to hijack but what about a rotrex supercharger, i know its a centrifugal charger but would anyone know if any of those chargers would work? ive been looking into these to do a custom charger build.

I think for a track car a centrifugal would be great. I used to really knock on them on small displacement engines, but more and more I like what they offer for upper rpm performance in a SC.

I don't think packaging one would be too hard as the connections intake and discharge of the SC are standard diameters and there is a lot of room in the front of the Renesis. Also no installation of a custom UIM, potential coil relocation, etc...all the obstacles of locating a positive displacement. There are readily available M8 and M10 studs and spacers that would be rigid as heck to keep it in place along with like 6061 AL stock for the brackets.

The real issue would be deciding if you want a custom eccentric shaft extension, or to use the 5 rib alternator belt and how you lay out the system with regards to using MAF or MAP.
