ShellDude's 4AT to 6 MT Turbo Thread

THIS THREAD IS A WORK IN PROGRESS

Bought my 2004 4 port GT in early 2008 with a little over 8,000 miles on the odometer. Aug 2012 she's at 54,000 miles (half of which boosted). Dec 2014 @ 75,000 miles I lost my rear rotor and began a full conversion to a 6MT motor and 6 speed transmission using a custom rebuilt 2006 6MT motor and transmission. I also had a spare stock GReddy TD06 turbo lying around and decided to use it with the rebuild rather than continuing with existing BNR upgraded one.

Back around 2009 sometime I picked up a used GReddy kit from quicksilver34. It was an awesome hodgepodge of parts -- stuff he'd pieced together over (I'm guessing) a couple months to a years time.

Adaptronic Notes

I (actually Dave did the bypass) bypassed SSV and VDI control by cutting the 1L and 1W leads going into the Adaptronic and factory ECU then wired them directly to the factory ECU using the factory harness and 2 lengths of wire.

See here: http://foxed.ca/rx7manual/2003mazdar...018880W02.html for more details.

Also, in PA we have to pass all but one readiness test and both my EVAP and Secondary Air tests are failing. After some research I found that two leads in the 4th loom (4D and 4H) are the control signals for the EVAP pump. See here: http://webcache.googleusercontent.co...&client=safari (it's google cache to the "secure" MNAO online DTC manual)

I then compared that to the Adaptronic RX-8 wiring diagram and noticed that both 4D and 4H are "NC" (not connected). After a brief email exchange with Andy he confirmed they are not connected and I'm in the process now of bridging the wires to see if I can get my EVAP test to pass.

You can find many more notes about things I'm doing with the Adaptronic here: https://www.rx8club.com/engine-tunin...ussion-237219/

Adding this here as it's my latest cosmetic improvement under the hood...

My 18 year old daughter's boyfriend works at a fabrication shop that has one of the huge (like 40' long) ovens... granted that was 39' more feet than we needed but he hooked me up with an AEM intake color matched powder coat of my final intake tube.

Also added link to the "Adaptronic Discussion" thread I've been putting a bunch of technical data in.

How do you put 10 L paint pails in yr boot with that speaker in there ?

Maybe I'm the only one that does that :dunno:

kma5783 09-02-2012 02:39 AM

Sub box looks good, I've thought of doing that with the Low Profile JL 13.5". I have two Infinity 10's right now but I'll probably be swapping it with a single 10" JL W6 soon.

ShellDude 09-08-2012 05:30 PM

Totally annoyed right now. I noticed earlier in the week some oil dribble in the driveway. After some research it appears my Rotosports Racing SS OMP Lines are leaking.

To add insult to injury I must've thrown away my OEM lines at some point and just had to drop $200 for new OEM lines.

After speaking with a couple different people it sounds like this isn't all that uncommon of a problem. I should've known better it seems....

Back to stock for OMP delivery and premix (just in case) until I get the old new lines installed.

ShellDude 09-20-2012 11:17 PM

So I've pulled the SS OMP lines and am shipping them back to Rotosports for warrantied replacement.

I will not be re-installing them. They ended up being a $400 excursion to nowhere.

9krpmrx8 09-21-2012 12:27 AM

That sucks dude. The stock OMP lines are pretty damn good, at least you won't have to mess with it anymore. Have you replaced the oil injectors at any point?

ShellDude 09-21-2012 07:05 AM

Nah... just a little decarb when the OEM lines went back on.

09Factor 09-21-2012 02:53 PM

$400 bucks plus your time and labor. crappy product indeed! Sorry to read about that.

Brettus 09-21-2012 04:02 PM

when is dis beast going to put down some numbarz ?

ShellDude 09-21-2012 05:26 PM

Sub was a distraction, Team... Technically it is part of my "build".

Perhaps I'll have some #s worthy of posting in the next month or two. I have a couple things underway that'll make or break the 200whp barrier I've been hitting.

mperformance 10-17-2012 04:21 PM

very nice. Subscribed.

ShellDude 10-24-2012 10:42 PM

So I've got another somewhat OT addition I'm about to commit on. I found an OEM body kit (front airdam, side skirts, and trailing ends for a reasonable price online and am about to commit. Should add a little aggressiveness to the overall look.

I'd considered some of the other body kits out there but none of them have ever really suited my tastes. We'll see how it looks once I have it onhand and installed. I don't anticipate fitment to be an issue.

FazdaRX_8 10-24-2012 10:47 PM

looks good, I have debated doing the same to my turbo pipes

ShellDude 10-24-2012 10:57 PM

It turned out really nice on the two visible pipes... the AEM MAF tube was already blue so I only needed to do the final charge / BOV tube.
