Rx8 Turbo Choice (Greedy or HKS, or...?)

Hi there guys, I'm a noob to this forum, so yeah...

For starters, going through a lot of the posts, I see that many people have opted for a Greedy or MazdaManiac turbo kit... Is this the most popular choice to go for?

I know someone is probably going to whack me on the head for saying/believing this, but my friend was telling me he has a HKS turbo kit on his Rx7, i think its a "T04Z 63T" kit, and he reckons this will fit onto my rx8 as well....

i'm tempted to go down this route, but can the HKS kit be fitted on to the 13-Renesis as apposed to the original 13B motor in the rx7?

i can't trust him as a reliable source...

so guys, your knowledge and wisdom will be much appreciated :DDD

Stop posting and start reading in the major horsepower thread. You don't even understand how the Renesis 13B-MSP is different from the 13B-REW.

Expect pissy answers from people who shouldnt post unless its informal.

But the kit that works on an rx7 wont work on an 8, the 13b is the name of the motor but its a renesis 13b.the way the exhaust mounts is different and im pretty sure the engine bay is as well.just look up the greddy kit for the 8

And the asshole members post begin soon, expect the following from them, search search, fck you newb why waste time etc.

Go buy a Greddy kit. Be sure to get the e-manage.

X7rotor 12-06-2012 06:54 PM

Make sure its the blue e manage, not ultimate.

Hey man, there is no HKS Kit for the 8. However there is a few options for kits but to be honest, not all of them are well built or in certain cases will even fit on the car properly. MazdaManiac is out of the turbo kit business, that is old news, so the only way you will get that kit is to find a used one (it is a good kit though). The other safe route is to go with a GReddy kit and upgrade the turbo (do some reading there are a couple places that will upgrade the turbo for you). With the GReddy kit though be prepared to use and aftermarket tuning solution as the GReddy supplied stuff is absolute garbage (E-Manage Ultmate or E-Manage Blue). I used the COBB AccessPort and a MazdaManiac tuning service to tune my GReddy kit (MM still offers tuning services even though he doesn't supply kits anymore). Go to MazdaManiac HOME for more info on this.

As previously stated this forum is short tempered to people asking questions that are already out there on the forum, so make sure to spend the next few weeks of your free time reading old threads (turbo build threads are always good) and learning as much about this car as you can, because answers will not always be given freely on this forum.

Here is some links to some build threads: https://www.rx8club.com/major-horsep...ds-club-163615

Good luck and welcome to 8club!

Greedy turbos are da bomb!

Mr_Pieper 12-07-2012 10:27 AM

Didn't this guy already get banified for being too charming?

dznutzuk 12-07-2012 11:10 AM

I wouldn't buy a Greedy turbo, it might want to much... Just kidding, the Greddy turbo setup is the most common kit, but there are better options such as a GT3071/6. Your thinking is right with your friend not being a reliable source.

If you can't spell greddy right you shouldn't consider tackling a turbo build on your own.
Reading comprehension is fundamental not to screw up the practical part of the build. That's pretty much it. Learning the theories first, applying them later.

The greddy kit is okay if you keep it at stock power .... anything higher and you wear the engine FAST
