RX8 SP track video

As you may be aware the RX8 SP was the only turbo RX8 to be produced by Mazda. It was designed to run in Targa championships around Australia and most famously around the gruelling Targa Tasmania where it placed well against other modified exotics.

Since production of the RX8 ended the car was sold and purchased by Ric Shaw racing.

Here is a short in car video of a practice run:

Just sharing a video.

Here is a link to other pictures from the RX8 nationals. The nationals tradition started in 2005 and has been run annually ever since by avid rotary lovers. Mazda was very generous this year with a $5k donation

I'm just messing with you, thanks for sharing. So that Turbo 8 is a series II series I hybrid? Which engine is being used?

We understand it is the a series 1 engine with a number of upgrades. Ric did a rebuild after purchase and has already run the car at a number of events. His best lap time around wakefield Park Raceway has been 1:05.

I held the lap record (1:11) set a few days after installing the Hymee supercharger on some badly flat spotted tyres. I am sure I can improve to around 1:09 however, I am not a professional driver like Ric.

Someone tell me why the damn radio is still in the car?

In case you get bored driving around the track?:p:Probably for aesthetics, I doubt the internals are still in place.

This car runs E85 and also proves that the RX8 engine can produce significant power and be reliable with a low mount turbo. It was producing similar lap times to a highly modified FD also run by Ric Shaw Racing on the day.

The Rx8 was produced as a targa race car so the setup is not quite suited for track racing while the FD was set up for the track.

It seemed to me that he never revved it out - do you know what his rev limit is set at ?
