9k, Whats your Average boost level for daily driving? 8PSI? 10PSI?
Whats your WHP? Travis |
10psi (not really smart for longevity) for most of the rev range and then tapers down to 7-8psi by 8500RPM. I would smooth that out a bit but I'm scared to do that since I just had a scare and thought I damaged the engine (ran out of premix in my SOHN and had a weird tick in the engine that has gone away). Current WHP is unknown since a remote retune with Steve and running E85 but if I had to guess, I would say 280-290ish on Steves Mustang Dyno.
But really I have found that dyno numbers don't mean shit in the real world. If it helps I put a smack down on a buddies bolt on and tuned Genesis Coupe and My RX-8 feels faster than my 2011 335i (oh the torque though). |
discotech, where do you live?

I still haven't figured out how to run a Sohn type device with this Turbo setup.
A buddy has an idea but he's busy more often than not so i've been attempting to figure it out on my own. Up to an include modifying an OMP to block off engine oil and pump two stroke from a container. Any thoughts? Im going to relook at your build thread and see how your setup looks with a sohn. Travis |
Travis
Scott says the new style manifold will accommodate Sohn, but the previous gen will not. As far as I can tell, my only option is to hack up the turbo intake pipe in order to make room. I have also purchased an additional Sohn, with hopes to cut it down as thin as I can possibly make it. |
Dunno why you would go to a lot of trouble to make a less reliable system of dubious benefit ................
|
We can continue this conversation at B@W or within my build thread so we don't clutter his up.
Chris^ Brett, We could argue ALL day about reliability and the benefit or downside to injecting 2 stroke over conventional oil. I shall send you a msg on chat :). Travis |

Looks good! Could you post up a log so we can see how the kit is doing?

as soon as the snow clears up I'll do a 10 PSI log haha. Although I might have one lying around from the summer.

Here's an older log to tickle you guys for now. The AFR was a pretty solid 10.7-11.1 the entire boost range as per my AEM gauge (just slightly under detectable range from the stock wideband.
|
Well if you ever get anywhere near Dallas or if you feel like Paying for a plane ticket then I suggest getting with Steve Kan at PRT for a live tune. A live tune is the way to go to get it really dialed in.
|
Have you had Brettus tune your car yet 9krpm? I believe he's doing this one.

I am not a fan of remote tuning on the RX-8. |

Cars I've tuned here in person only take an afternoon whereas doing it remotely can take weeks. And I really think a street tune is better than a dyno tune (low boost) ....FWIW. |
Yeah, it's pretty hard to determine what is a tuning issue and what is a hardware issue without having the car in front of you. And street tuning is better I agree, but finding a place to do that is pretty impossible around here.
|
It took about 5 iterations from the base tune to get my car dialled in remotely, but it definitely got there in the end. Felt like OEM - like every time you get in and drive you can just beat on it hard as soon as oil temp is up.
9k, stop holding out and post some updates on your thread. |

9k, stop holding out and post some updates on your thread. Yeah mine drives pretty awesome, especially in this cooler weather which is why I am afraid to mess with it. I have not posted updates because I just bought a 335i and well you know how the mod bug goes, :lol But I do plan on getting some video and some track time soon. I have just been busy wrenching on other cars, trying to get other turbo 8's running,. |

I think over the summer I'm going to see if I can't get my hands on an adaptronic ecu and make use of the MAP sensor it has. The car runs fine with the cobb but the 9000 foot long intake path with the maf at the front kind of has me bummed over throttle response and closed loop operation (more oscillation of AFR fuel trims constantly over/under compensating than I'd like to see).
|
Throttle response or turbo lag ? Neither will be improved by changing the ECU . Also : AFRs will be way more erratic with an Adaptronic .
If you don't have a honeycomb maf straightener already , that would help a lot with consistency. |
