Nitrous questions

it seems there is isn't a whole about nitrous in the forums specific to my questions.

I have a 07 6speed A/T, i am really considering putting a good wet nitrous kit on my 8, the kit will be by zex kit part#82021. Just looking for a little power gain nothing ridiculous, the kit advertises a 55-75 hp gain which i am guessing 75 shot is the max shot for this kit? So with that said i just want to know if the stock fuel pump will be ok with 75 shot being the max. The fuel pump is brand new probably 6k miles on it if that? Also the car is bone stock except exhaust and a drop in K&N air filter. my second question is if i mount the nitrous nozzle 6" away from the throttle body meaning it would be pretty much where the MAF is will the nos mix go into the hoses coming out of the jagged rubber inlet right before the throttle body.

1-will the stock fuel pump work with a low shot?
2-will the nos mix go into intake tubes?

please none of that "why are you even juicing the car" or "why are you doing this to a A/T" bull crap, I just need my questions answered. Thanks.

200.mph 06-20-2013 07:12 AM

its better to get the bhr throttle body spacer for the nozzle

yes it will work on an a/t but read up on when to spray

55 shot is recomended. i know someone who ran the 65 but i believe he retarded his timing with his cobb

i run the 55 shot but im thinking of selling my kit

OP, contact Charles at BHR he sells everything you need and has done an install before and can answer all your questions.

200, do you have a thread about your kit?

Mainly has there ever been a before and after dyno?

i dont think i started a thread on it but ive posted questions/pics in the n02 threads. what do you want to know? yes ive had it on the dyno

Carbon8 06-20-2013 07:37 AM

Im torn, IMO NO2 has no buisness in an FI build but I would love to have the experience even though it would be short lived.

What did you see for gains on the dyno?

RPM/Load triggering or manual?

Overall opinion, Worth it (initial research budget 2K for a proper NO2 kit install)?

Anything else you want to share about the experience?

Thanks

200.mph 06-20-2013 07:42 AM

once armed it activates at wot. its fun but i dont use it that much and im only think of selling it because im buying a house and any extra $ is good right now.

$2k is way overpriced for n02. i dont have a remote opener or heater but i do have the bhr spacer and the purge which i hand bent brake line down through my fenders so it purges out the middle of both my fender vents.

about 35 maybe 40hp at the wheels on the dyno on a 55 shot. i dont have the sheet with me

Carbon8 06-20-2013 07:49 AM

What's the time cycle, IE full bottle under WOT?

MM tuned for WOT activation? or other means?

If you sell PM me I'd be interested.

200.mph 06-20-2013 07:57 AM

my car is dyno tuned by mm himself via my cobb but its not required.

i get asked how long a bottle lasts all the time and i still dont have an answer lol. i only drive my car during the summer and dont spray that often. ive had the kit for a few years now and it depends on how much you use it and how often/how long you purge it. ive never gone through more than a bottle and a half per summer. when the gauge on the tank starts reading low i get it filled. you pay per pound of n02 but the pressure gauge depends on how hot the bottle is

Carbon8 06-20-2013 08:02 AM

Ok, then dumb question time?

What is the controller for the activation? is it gear regulated or only WOT? What sort of AFR's do you see?

All this talk makes me want to drive down for a ride :)

200.mph 06-20-2013 08:47 AM

theres a n02 management unit that the fuel/n02 lines run through. you tap the tps sensor wire off the tb and program it to wot. gears have nothing to do with it. come on down

Carbon8 06-20-2013 08:55 AM

As always appreciate the info. kinda leaning hard on this MOD, once I get my current project finished.

200.mph 06-20-2013 08:56 AM

np man. if you need to know anything else just ask

wcs 06-20-2013 09:01 AM

Hope no one minds if I join the dance.

Ray installed my kit and basically taught me everything I know about nitrous.
(which could use some brushing up)
I'll start with some answers and finish with a question because I know Ray is out there lurking ;)

Nitrous activation is or should always be on WOT.
82012 comes with a module that activates at a certain voltage, this is set presumable at WOT during the installation (4.9-5.0volts)
However the Nitrous still needs to be armed, if it's not armed then no juice.
So WOT in first gear if armed goes by really really really really fast.
(It's not gear regulated)

How long does a bottle last?
For me a 10lb bottle would last a couple months but like 200.mph has said it's all how you use it.
For me it was a 65 shot.

Now Ray will tell you to only use a 55 shot and make sure to only engage after the SSV has opened (4500rpm). I think this is more out of his responsibility and reliability demands for his products and loyalty to his customers.
That being said I ran a 65 shot for a long time with no problems.
I went to a 75 shot with great joy and again no issues ... until one hot summer day when the bottle pressure got to about 1200psi !!!!!!!
Over confident I lit the place up ... ran awesome until 3rd gear when I got a manifold backfire and blew the Maf screens to shit.

So what did I learn? That I should listen to Ray!
Basically it's this ... 55 shot you can run all day forever and never worry. --- edit: Not Tuned
65 Shot you've got the Devil's attention --- edit: Tuned with a few degrees retarded timing FWIW
75 Shot the Devil's has your number in his red book --edit: Same as 65 shot
75+ do-able but you passenger is the Devil --edit: same as 65 shot

I'll try and find my dyno run's
Again like 200.mph said
55shot = 40 whp
65shot = 50 whp
75shot = 60 whp

-- edit ---
shit I said I would end with a question.

I'm thinking about adding nitrous back to my TC setup. Small shot maybe 25-35 really down low to get things spooled up.
Ray if you are lurking, thoughts?
Anyone?

Carbon8 06-20-2013 09:06 AM

Doesn't timing need to be adjusted with anything over a 55 shot? Thus resulting in poor performance when not spraying.

Nope. It's just recommended.
And it's got nothing to do with poor performance, well unless you call blowing the engine poor performance lol

Carbon8 06-20-2013 09:15 AM

Is it possible to limit RPM range, IE no spray under 4.5K even under WOT?

One could make the argument :rollingla

200.mph 06-20-2013 09:19 AM

i was hoping you or 9k would chime in and i was talking about you when i said i knew someone who ran the 65 shot but i forgot you played with the 75.

was it easy or flashwing that kept popping uim on his auto? iirc it was easy

i installed my kit with advice from ray and 9krpm

Current TC setup ... Virtual dyno don't get to excited.

yes just ont arm the system. when im going to spray i arm it right before i hit the 4500 mark once i pass it, mash the go pedal=spray

Carbon8 06-20-2013 09:26 AM

Don't follow the 340WHP dynojet?

Seems you averaged about 50WHP, those are from the 65 shot I assume?

Shouldn't be that hard to Fab one up, use an encoder on the tach signal that activates a relay, I'm more of a set it and forget it kind of guy, I don't want to worry about activating it once I am already driving plus during a track event you could just leave it armed through an entire session and not have to worry.

:) I ran 65 shot for over a year with nary a concern, however satan is my brother in-law.

Seriously a 75 shot can be done. Retard the timing a bit and be extra careful when you engage the juice and you should be ok ....
Key word being should.
This is why Ray doesn't recommend it, because it is very risky.

Honestly the engine IMO will take a 100 shot

LOL that's how I did it.
However you can buy a trap device that monitors the RPM and will only allow the nitrous in a set window

Sorry Carbon I do a horrible job at labelling my pics.
I don't know if those are dyno's of 55shot's or 65shots

The 340 is the latest I pulled of on my turbo setup.
Just thought I would throw in there for bragging rights. lol
I know I know virtual dyno ... still makes me :)

Carbon8 06-20-2013 09:37 AM

Yeah trap would be the only way I would want it setup, arm it before a leg and just forget about it until the bottle pressure gauge starts beeping, then the fun is over :(

Are you still spraying while FI?

you will have a very hard time finding a track other than drags that will allow you to even have the bottle in your car during a track day.

my arming sw is on the knee bolster above my knee under the steering wheel. its a very short transition from my shifter to the sw. not hard to arm/ disarm

Carbon8 06-20-2013 09:44 AM

Apologies, my definition of track days are not in classifications or regulated, just a bunch of us renting out small courses for the day around the area for fun.
