Needs more HP

Running an 06'. Great car but...
If I'm going to dump 6k into this car. Would it be better to upgrade a 2010 instead? I have under 100,000km. I keep hearing about this Greddy kit. Does anyone know what the final HP is with the kit installed? I is there any other kits that are more highly recommended? 240hp isn't cutting it. I wanna run against BMW's and Audi's

I closed this thread, then decided to re-open.

I'll start off with: It sounds like you need to do some basic research first, specifically why the "Greddy kit" isn't a plug and play, what you need to do, what the ECU differences are between the series 1 (your 2006) and the series 2 (a 2010) and the differences in available tuning methods, the costs you are looking at, health of your engine, whether or not you will need to get an engine rebuild first, how the "final hp" is a hugely subjective term that has only vague connection to the parts used, and why you don't actually have 240hp while naturally aspirated.

I'm guessing I'll have to shut the thread down before long...

Run against BMW's and Audi's at what? If its drag racing, you bought the wrong car. If major horsepower upgrades are your concern, start searching and reading... a lot!

This car is about handling, balance, and driving feel, all of which is has in spades. These two threads are a good place to start:

going FI is going to cost you more than $6k and still leave you feeling relatively unimpressed. the problem is making real power with the renesis which is not really a FI suited engine to start with.

but it begs the question: has anyone milled 13B-MSP rotors for lower compression? i haven't looked at the rotors extensively to see how much material they have and if it will compromise the rotors bringing them down to a more reasonable 9.0:1 ratio. there is of course still the side seal issues..

or do like mazdatrix did and use FD rotors, and 13bmsp housing covers but it requires a complicated manifold that will need to be custom.

I say just look into swapping a 13B-REW thats seems like the best bet to me.

RIWWP 04-03-2013 05:34 PM

An REW swap isn't all that much more than turbocharing the Renny, one guy had a turn-key swap for...$15k? With $3k in optional extras.

Karack 04-03-2013 05:39 PM

and a 20B is just a step up from that!

it's just too difficult to sell someone on where to go, best bet is if you feel the 8 is lacking and don't want to empty the bank account just buy an FD and modify it instead with the money you got from the 8. it is the best platform for making more power relatively easily(unless you can fabricate and get all the parts necessary for good prices, even then i look at the 8 and realize it's just too much work).

swap it to REW....if I could do all over again, all the money I have spent, I would go to REW

Well thats wrong to start with (although not cost wise)! My 8 when supercharged impressed the hell out of me, and when I crushed other cars in sprint comps, they were pretty impressed too.....

OK you will suck at drag racing though......

Yeah, mine is pretty damn quick and impresses me daily. But power corrupts, FD guys think they make mad power and domestic guys laugh at them so it all depends what your expectations are and what you are doing with the car.

Thank guys . Sorry about the post location .. new to this

There are discussions on this forum about the pros and cons of low compression rotors
