Need help passing inspection!! What do I need to get rid of CEL?
Hello everyone, I recently had my esmeril turbo kit installed with microtech and the CEL is Going to make me fail emissions... Any way to get rid of the CEL for a few mins just for inspection or is there any way to permanently get rid of it? Any advice would be helpful!!

Dont quote me, but I "think" the Cobb will do what you require. If I'm incorrect, which apparently I have been recently, I apologize in advance.

Over this way, ( Croatia ) you can pay off the cop's, but not the Emission tech's. Good luck.

I read somewhere that there is some Reflasher or resetter that will mask the CEL?
|
There must be some way to get rid of this CEL....
|
Well, which CEL is it?? And the COBB will be your best bet for clearing CEL's

don't show up the day after you reset the ECU and mask the CEL (read AccessPort). Emission tests will check the # of run cycles since last reset and if the count is too small they'll fail you. I'm not sure what the exact cutoff is but you'll want to get at least 4-5 days of driving in before showing up.
|
Well really all you need is a Cobb AP and their Stock tune and the Accessracer software. You can deactivate the CEL and take advantage of certain features you don't get with the IntX, yet still leave the overall tuning up to the IntX. Since you don't need AP tuning in general a used one is probably your best value alternative even if having a second tuning device is redundant

Indeed. Adding complexity to a car that is already running pretty poorly (check Esmeril RX8's other threads) is an excellent suggestion.

And the car is running great now actually I just need a fine tune and I'm switching to cobb

Yanking the microtech and replacing it with an AP isn't plug and play kinda thing. Do not go into boost until your AP tuner tells you its safe to do so and that will likely take a number of tune adjustments first.
And it'll likely run like shit until you get deeper into the tune. |
Everyone is assuming that it's the cat delete CEL...
Has the OP checked to make sure that it's the only CEL present? Aren't there other CELs that can cause you to fail emissions? Or does MM get those masked to? |

Right, a CEL. However that is a fairly inconclusive about what is actually causing it, since there are a whole mess of codes that can throw a CEL:
Check out this list for starters: https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...99&postcount=1 |
you need to, at the very least, connect to the obd2 port with a scan tool to read off the actual code(s) that are causing the check engine light to illuminate.
It's awesome that anyone can get a turbo now with the Esmeril kit! I'm so impressed... :fruit: |

Because of the way an IntX integrates with the OE tune means that it can also integrate with a Cobb AP using the Cobb supplied OE tune. There's really nothing complex about it. Once you setup the Cobb OE tune with whatever settings you want like cooling fans, CEL control, etc and load it you are done. The IntX will still function WRT control and tuning no different than If it was working with a factory tune. Why don't you spell out the redesign work he will have done to his Esmeril kit to make an AP work on it? |

The sad truth is there are plenty of people here ignorant enough to believe your self serving BS. Your only objection is that you not only don't get to sell him a new AP unit if he does it that way, he or whoever he eventually sells it to won't be a slave to hiring you to make changes to the locked tuning file

Dude, you have an Esmeril kit. Did you ever consider talking to Esmeril first before posting? One thing he will explain to you is that the kit wasn't designed to work with an AP. It can be made to work with one, but will require modifications. If you went off half cocked and already paid MM for a new AP and tuning service you might as well continue down that path. You will have to spend more money to get there though.
|
Yes I have talked to them about it. I just bought one so that I can use it if I decide that's what I want to do
|
Esmeril is currently in development of their AP compatible setup. You may as well wait for them or get in touch with them regarding it because if you do not know what you are doing, you will never get anywhere.
|
I'm just going to get my microtech tuned by Kane on the 15th and I'll wait for esmeril to release there AP compatible setup
|
I thought that was on their newly redesigned kit? Did you verify that it swaps over to the earlier kits?
