Unless you go Forced Induction, no mod is going to buy you much horsepower. As far as reliable mods. OEM Ignition coils are crap so you might consider BHR ignition system. It will not only help prevent flooding issues but will gain you some performance. The clutch pedal assembly isnt designed well and has been a known issue to snap causing a great deal of damage and money, so you will most likely want to get a reinforcement bracket which Race Roots sells. Another great idea is the Cobb Accessport that you can buy from MazdaManiacs and pay a little extra to get a custom tune for more performance. As far as little gains, there is the lightweight flywheel, aftermarket intake and exhaust, midpipe, header, underdrive power pulleys. Than you can go on to swaybars and struts, short shifter, light weight rims.

Bluerenesis outlined pretty much all the common performance mods. As far as cosmetics mods go I would get tint, clear corners, LEDs replacement light bulbs.

Since this is the major horsepower section I'll highlight some of the supporting mods people have found to be prudent when going FI.
Any FI: - AccessPORT (if kit doesn't require something else) - BHR ignition - Water/methanol injection - Midpipe or highflow cat - Cleaned and bench flowed stock injectors - Oil catch can Cooling - BHR or Ron Davis radiator - Mazmart RE-medy waterpump - Mazmart RE-medy thermostat - Might as well upgrade the hoses while you are doing the rest Lubrication - SOHN adapter - Increased OMP rates via AccessPORT tuning - GReddy oil pan - Mazmart oil pressure mod Gauges - Aftermarket wideband O2 - Boost gauge 300rwhp and over: - Upgraded P2 injectors - Walbro fuel pump - Upgraded clutch As you approach 400hp even more supporting mods are needed but this list should be a good starting point. |
One often overlooked mod:
HPDE for you the driver. Then the BHR Ignition Coil solution. After that start worrying about the other stuff. |
Yeah, you're in the major HP thread... And you didn't state a model year. If you're 2009+ you're boned for a lot of these. Assuming 2004- 2008...
to IronTanuki's list I'll add Get the AP whether you're FI or not! It's a great tool. Mazmart RE-medy oil pressure mod Race Roots clutch pedal reinforcement AFE short shifter New owner info: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ht=reliability I guess a lot have been covered... |

They both come with instructions for the do-it-yourselfers. |
I wouldn't necesarily call it a mod but its a good place for you to start rather than wasting our time answering the same f-ing question again. :wallbash:

^ Yep, but they won't last forever (OP: Cobb AP not manufactured for RX-8 since late July this year iirc - MM has a limited stock)

If an 04, check out the first $100 link below, clean stuff up, then go forward. Basically you want to get back to 0, then go forward. I would have done BHR ignition as recommended above, but did not have the bucks. Next time though, coils are a maintenance item anyway, at least with stock. The other thread is a great place for data as well.
