custom turbo kit

im gonna be working on a turbo kit for my RX8 this winter. im the exh. manifold will be more like that of the RX7. just wondering how much luck you all have had with the Emange, ive worked with it several times but mainly tune with the AEM EMS. i have unlimited access to a dyno so tuning is not an issue. if anyone has any specs or installation or comments on using the emange please let me know. The turbo will be smaller than that in the SSR kit. im going more for better spoil time as apposed to huge power. im lookin more at 350hp at 10psi. please give me any comments.

thanks

Good luck and take lots of pics. Do you plan on fabricating parts or buying peices and slapping it all together?

We are having good results fine tuning using Canzoomer (E-manage), but this is with regards to an N/A Renesis. The principle is kinda the same coz we tinker with the open-loop range. There are careful downtuning precautions at port-opening rpms like 7500 rpm or something. Read the SDAIS thread for details. Also read on our CZ tuning thread.

If you have experience in tuning with AEM EMS, I would guess that the principles would stay the same with E-manage... just different controls.

Good luckon your Turbo quest! Hope it works out.

The e-manage probably does not have enough tune-ability for a good FI system and 10psi is gonna be rough at this stage in the game. You won't need 10psi for 350 crank horsepower either.
I'd reccommend waiting for wolf's ECU or getting a Ric Shaw ECU and working that way. Also, look into upgrading the injectors (at least the secondaries) and possibly the fuel pumps (yes pumps). I dont know how much of that is necessary but high boost is gonna require running very rich to prevent detonation.
Good luck.

im not just gonna slap something togehter, im working with a parts manufacture in canada for the custom work, im just gonna get the ruff designs together and have him produce the final pieces as far as piping and manifolds. and the kit will be full including gauges, fuel pump, injectors etc. im not going to take any cheap routes in doing this becuase it is a personal car and dont plan on ruining the car. i will need to do some more work with the emanage to see if it will work to expectations, if not i might go as far as wiring up an ems. im not tryn to blow smoke up everyones asses, im just lookin for any suggestions and the project will prob not start till december.

If you are going to go forced induction I would use the Ric Shaw computer that adds a map sensor. The base Ric Shaw unit does not have one. It is an add on. The Ric Shaw unit will also give you the advantage of adjusting the leading and trailing spark separately which is very important when combatting detonation. The eManage does not have this ability.

Good luck if you try and use the AEM EMS, drive by wire throttle, lack of a pnp harness, no OBDII, and the fact that the stock RX-8 ecu controls a lot of extra things besides the engine makes it pretty difficult to use a stand alone ECU. I think you might have better luck with a greddy e-manage which is actually a pretty good unit. Also HKS has an ECU that might be able to fill the job, don't know if anyone has tried it yet though.
