KONIG's Greddy Turbo Install Thread
So ive decided to go turbo. After seeing a local rx8 owner go turbo successfully (his name on this forum is gregs) it gave me the motivation to go for it. I hope everything goes smoothly but i do know unexpected things happen. Wish me luck!
My rx8 has 40,000 miles currently. The route i am taking is with a used greddy turbo kit i bought from fluidmotorsports (now called race roots) and using the Accessport with mazda maniancs tuning service i currently have as engine management. Planning to have it installed in mid-january with the help of gregs who has already installed his greddy kit twice. I will be running Mazdamaniacs base turbo map (and staying out of boost and WOT) until i can get it tuned by Mazdamaniac himself during a dyno day happening in late january =) -Update: Went to dyno day, MM tuned car and my car has been running strong ever since. thanks again mazdamaniac!!! Update Jan 21st: finished install pics of engine bay and intercooler placement with front bumper back on. Update October 4th: Car has nearly 50k miles (installed turbo at around 40k miles) and still have had no problems with tune or parts failing on me. Lets see how long this lasts! hey so konig, you didn't get this greddy kit from the guy selling it in the FS section?
|
no that is the kit that silvere8 bought (he said it a few posts up in this thread)
i was going to but mlogan did not respond for a few days so i went with the safer choice and bought it from fluidmotorsports instead! thanks guys! |
good stuff Konig .
Can we get pics of your GF helping with the install , I have some ideas for poses if you need them . |
I did it.. Konig should too.
Right Fellas? |
haha you guys are never satisfied huh!
shes tired of hearing me talk about my car 24/7 already lol...! |
I made my wife lube and install head bolts in a school girl outfit.....you can get her to cave. ;)
|
Pictures!
Nice! |
looking good man :) i'm jealous, wish i was home to work on mine...
btw since you are there and it'll only cost a few cents... grab a longer piece or rubber hose and put it on the coolant overflow tank, run it down to the bottom of the car where it wont drip on anything and ziptie it. no one wants to be dripping out of the overflow tank, but if it were to happen at least it wont drip all over your power steering connections... |
still waiting on some parts to come in, they should be here early this week!
thanks for the tip paul! |
Hey Konig grats and good luck with the install.
Just 2 things, to extend the maf so it can reach you just have to remove the cables that go to the maf that are in that plastic tube with the rest of the car cables. Just remove the black tape take it out and it will reach so no need to cut or anything. Also the AP is ok for monitoring AFR's but if you can get a gauge its so much easier to watch while you drive plus it changes faster than the number on the AP screen so I like it more. If you need any help just pm me. I get my emails on the blackberry and I can reply from there. |
congrats can't wait to the the finished product
