JDM pro-M performance chip

I found this for sale it says it is listed for the rx8 with oBD2 port. It says it increases from 20-40bhp and 40 Torque. What do you guys think of this?... I'm really sceptic about it. Anyone has or tried it? Also it says it isnt for turbo or supercharged cars, only aspirated.

Increase power and dramatically improve low end and torque. Crisp acceleration will blow everybody off the line. Installation is easy, no special tools or skills required. You will receive 20-40 extra horsepower & extremely improve acceleration up to 20% depending on the factory engine performance and other modifications you may have. No removing or taking apart your ECU is needed. No soldering. This stage 3 upgrade kit is designed to fool the computer and trigger greater horsepower, torque and acceleration. You will enjoy a refreshed engine, with outstanding acceleration without the typical flat spots. Detailed instructions are included. http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Mazda-RX-8-St...6Hg~~60_58.JPG

Does it get you 30 mpg too?

musicaddikt 11-14-2013 08:10 AM

very low mpg increase. It costs around 250$ and it plugs in the ecu. That's why there is 5% believe 95% not. haha. At least it aint a cheap resistor.

04Green 11-14-2013 08:25 AM

I would pass.

Get it tuned by a professional. That will also get you more OMP volume, the fans turning on sooner and longer life stuff.

MEboy 11-14-2013 08:26 AM

Does it stop the engine from burning oil?

alnielsen 11-14-2013 08:36 AM

I'm not going to dismiss this one like most of the previous posters have. Well, it's not the standard mod that cheats the signals sent to the ecu. It could work, but it's an unknown. Especially when we don't have any documentation on what it does.
If you do decide to get it, please get a before and after dyno run and report back.

This place seems to be selling it.

Interesting... Like a custom tuner in a box...

Interesting they sell a rotary one, but rotary is not listed on the add for engines (3, 4, 6, 8, 10 cyl).

True on that( because i found a website where there is rx8 model but when your gona select the engine tells you the same ...so probably it works but not for rotary even if i found this on ebay saying its for rx8. Seeing the feedback and comments(if theyre authentic) seems it really works.

haha.. dont trust anything with JDM in its title.. and even more so if the letter coloring is black with a little bit of red somewhere...

Ricky SE3P 11-14-2013 01:16 PM

save your money, buy a cobb. its only a tiny bit more and ACTUALLY WORKS

RIWWP 11-14-2013 01:32 PM

The concept is sound, but the implementation is really worrying. It has to be making a lot of assumptions about what is best for an engine, and how does it actually make the engine behave different? If it's reflashing, then it's going to simply not work with any vehicle that doesn't have a flashable ECU (making their 1996+ claim a lie). If it actually interrupts the factory signals, then it can't be something that is as simple to install as they indicate, and modern ECUs like the RX-8s are going to over-ride the changes anyway.

The reviews at the bottom feel fake to me. Similar writing styles.

Edit:
I found someone on an Eclipse forum that figured out that it's nothing more than a throttle controller.

I can't believe that experienced forum members are actually thinking this could possibly work .
* even when flash tuning we know that one tune does not fit all.
* Flash tuning (on a dyno) has been proven to net under 10 whp on a good day so the claims are utter BS.
* how can it even work ? Plug and play ? What a load of crap .

How hard is installation?
Very easy. Simply plug the unit into your vehicle when off and start your vehicle. If installed correctly, the lights will flash
I wouldn't mind betting that the flashing lights is the ONLY thing going on when it is plugged in.

Scam

I am calling possible scam due to the fact that in two separate places on the website they claim first that it "will" boost hp up to 50% then further down they state up to 40 hp (not % this time) so which one is it? Will is an absolute statement. They should say may boost. Also in their video which has to be the most annoying and poorly produced promotional clip I have seen in awhile they don't even spell mapping correctly! Sounds like a scam to me!
