Installing Oil Pressure and Water Temperature Gauges

Boosted People,
How did you guys connect your oil pressure & water temprature gauges to your car? Where did you purchase the hardware like T-fittings and such.

Thanks!

rkostolni 06-30-2005 03:30 PM

Water temp you can buy a hose for around $100 (I believe it is the lower radiator hose) from Blitz that has a place for the sensor to attach, or make a custom sensor attachment.

Oil pressure can be many places, at the turbo, at the stock oil pressure sensor, or use an adapter plate at the oil filter.

I used the Blitz Cooling performer for the water, and the Greddy sandwich adapter for the oil temp and oil pressure (it sits inbetween the oil filter and the block).

there is a thread on this in the DIY I think

I did a search and checked the DIY and i could not find any information on how people have been fitting there gauge sensors for boosted 8s.

THANKS, this is very helpful.

Where is the stock oil pressure sensor? Do you have some photos?

Thank you, I want put a Defi oil sensor , but I do not want use an adapter plate at the oil filter because sometime there is oil leaks.

Thank you

The oil pressure sensor is on the drivers side of the block.

For the water temp gauge, I ended up making my own adapter from home depot's plumbing section. It cost me all of about $10. Just cut the heater supply line and place a T fitting in-line with it using two barbed to NPT connectors. The water temp sender just screws into the top of the T.

^^^That's the cheapest way to do the water temp. RB has a nice machined piece that will do it for you, too. I went their water temp adaptor and oil filter plate that has two outlets for temp and pressure.

RB =racing beat.

We sell both the racing part and a higher quality stainless steel part that has TWO outlets and will never leak even under very high pressure. The part was commissioned for Mazda Racing in Japan...it has been personally tested in a Turboed RX-8 under 9psi...although it will be tested under much higher boost in the coming year.

I have several thousand leak free miles using the part truemagellan links to above

evilmiata 10-27-2006 08:11 PM

I have several thousand leak-free miles over 10psi (not that boost matters in this case) with the Racing Beat parts I linked.

Great part, I have been using it up to 12psi with no leaks. Definately the way to go.

Great to hear.

I have a couple left. I just found out from Japan there are more in stock so I'm going to have to order more :).

That cheap for the Racing Beat $59.00.
I think I might get the water and oil sender adapter

We do sell both Racing Beat's parts btw.

The other oil block adapter I posted is made out of stainless steel, not aluminum like the RB version...and best of all it has two sensor locations instead of one like the RB one.

evilmiata 10-28-2006 05:33 PM

RB has two sensor locations. What is the advantage of SS? The oil fill neck is aluminum...heck, even the engine is made of Aluminum!

Aluminium ..Better heat dissipation ?

truemagellen 10-28-2006 08:05 PM

We sell both RB's and the Japanese parts so it is up to the customer.

You would have to see the aniversary part in person to understand. We love Racing Beat here...but this part is entirely different build quality.

There usually are reasons for Mazda Racing in Japan commissioning a part in Stainless Steel over Aluminum for their heavy duty race applications...but I could be wrong (maybe an engineer in Japan just said it looks prettier :)).

Im interersted in the greddy intellegent informeters, would it read the oil temp and presure?? I heard that the 8 doesnt even have an oil temp sensor. I just dont wanna put extra gauges. I will do it in the future but not now.
