I want to send my Renisis off to get rebuilt!!
Alright, I know how most people on this site are all for doing your own work on your own cars but when it comes to a rotary rebuild I'm useless. A while ago I found a link on this site for a shop in Canada I believe it was that could rebuild and port the rotary and strengthen the seals for a turbo application. I've done a million searches and looked through posts for about a week now but apparently there are a ton of posts about rebuilding. If someone could tell me a really really really good place to look into about sending off the engine for the rebuild? The engine has 90,000 miles on it and is losing power slowly but surely. Not to mention I'm saving up money for one of the turbo kits that mazsport just put out and I'd really like to have the engine in tip top shape before I drop 10 grand on the turbo kit. Any help would be really appreciated!!

This place is in Canada. I have no experience wit them, but it looks like they do what you are looking for. I think they have been around for a while.

Thanks for all the referrals but I must make a correction so that we don't short-change Rick: He's been building them for well over 30 years
The only negative about getting something built is we're backlogged with competition orders at the moment. If time isn't an issue, bring it on.

He might not be that lucky. I live in Houston. It's a very large city. If I didn't know how to build an engine myself I wouldn't trust ANYONE else here to do it. There is no local rotary shop. The nearest rotary shop that I'd trust is 250 miles away in Dallas. That's not exactly local. I know of only a handful of shops across the entire country that I'd trust to build a rotary and that's it. This means that for most people a local rotary shop is not something that is an option. Florida has a few good rotary builders spread out. You can also find them in Atlanta, Dallas, Portland, Phoenix, and L.A. If you aren't in or near any of these areas, send it out or do it yourself.

The shop I'm having do any serious work on my car, JPR, is 103 miles away. There are tons of shops around me so plenty of people will lineup to take my money and blow my engine. Good work is worth traveling/shipping out.
If Mazmart is booked, maybe contact Pettit or Mazsport. You'd have to ship it to FL, but I'm sure these guys could rebuild it. Then again, with their recent FI releases, they are both fairly busy.
Paul Yaw in AZ rebuilds engines but probably mostly competition engines.
When looking for mechanics, I went through Rx7club.com. If you rebuild reciprocating engines, rebuilding a camaro and a mustang are not worlds apart. If you were rebuilding rotaries 5 years ago, you were doing Rx-7s. Given the age of most of the rx-7s, they have had many engine rebuilds and, thus, know of virtually every rotary engine rebuilder.

In all of the Chicago area, I know of only one shop that specializes in rotary engines. This shop is backed up with work on FD engines for months. There are a couple of others that dabble in them. When the engine went out in my race car, back in the 90's, I had to take it to Memphis for the rebuild.

Any experienced rotary builder is going to stay behind most of the time. Even at times like this when workload lightens up a little, I still have 3-4 weeks of work on hand at any given time. My turnaround normally never exceeds 4-5 weeks. However, here at least, you save lots of money to offset the downtime/turnaround. If you're one of those people that just has to have it now, you can probably order remans through malloy mazda for around 2500-3000. Of course I havent checked the reman price on a renny so that may be totally inaccurate, but thats what the older rotaries go for.
Almost no builders (other than mazda) are going to have pre-built renny's on hand for exchange at this point...cores seem to be too hard to get ahold of reasonably. For this reason I choose to offer the rebuild as a service, instead of selling an engine outright or doing an exchange. This keeps me from having to track down useable cores constantly, as I can just wait for the customers to send in their cores to build from.
