I had to take the bolt out and install the pulley I also had the take out all my extra heat wrap around the wiring loom to get the supercharger to fit. Hopefully in my next trial fit I dont find any further issues. I also took out the alternator out as it has to be mounted to the supercharger framework. |
How does the alternator get attached? I cannot figure out if it attaches to stock location or directly to the frame. Spent hours and did not get anywhere. |
the alternator is attached to the frame AND engine mounting point on the lower right mounting bolt. should be "relatively" lined up.

I think my harness is in the way as it's not lining up properly. I will have to get the harness out of the way so the unit can be bolted down at the rear

I don’t have enough space to add a nut for the alternator. The bottom is fixed however the top doesn’t have space for a nut |
Finally managed to install all the main components. Still not sure on the pulley setup however it’s easy to undo once I figure it out. I will have a go at turning the engine over by the end of the day |
Yeah I had to do some machining magic with the top alternator bolt.

Blank plate over the water pump to allow the extra pulleys. Ls3 throttle body with improved intake on the supercharger. Power was dropping off in the high rev range. The Hymee inlet design is quite restrictive. Currently installing the latest adaptronic rx8 ecu as the old piggy back adaptronic couldn’t stop the idle from hunting. This will also drive the ls3 throttle. |

How much boost are you running? Any dyno yet
What is that gadget next to the coolant overflow? I have made similar changes to my kit after looking at your pictures. I am planning to use mazdaedit to program the computer. I am not sure if I can use mazdaedit to run aftermarket mafless throttlebody |
That Gadget is most likely an electric water pump. I have been wanting to do a setup like that forever.

The supercharger gets very hot and will heat what little oil that is in the gearbox up (I wouldn’t even think the cool oil will get to the top gear). The hot oil will not travel up to the top gear in the gearbox. It needs an oil feed and drain. I would also imagine the constant feed of engine oil would help keep the gearbox cool. |

It was hymee himself that recommend the system be closed. I even contacted the sc manufacturer and they confirmed his his oil choice.

I did not take any temperature readings so I cannot help with the discussion. Mine was running with the engine oil feed and it did work well for several years without any issues. I will start with the gear oil and see how it fares and then decide. The inlet for the oil is quite high so I believe the gears will have sufficient oil |
The thing with the hymee closed gearbox is that the gearshaft tube is full of oil that really isnt being actively heated, just kind of bathing the shaft in oil. I'm no thermodynamics expert, but This setup had MUCH more oil floating in there specifically for this reason. Im sure it helps keeping the oil cooler or at least taking it longer to burn out, but like I said; not an expert.

How are you going to ensure the top gear in the gearbox gets enough oil? You are relying on the oil to transfer up two gears. Which is less likely once the oil is hot. Dont forget the rpm these gears are spinning at too. If you try a sealed gearbox and it fails there could already be damage done to the gears which I imagine are hard to find these days. The extra gear was a custom order by Hymee. My brothers car has been running with the oil feed and drain for a few years now and there are no signs of wear on the teeth yet. I believe someone on here ran theirs with the sealed gearbox and it failed. Hoss maybe? |

The bolt is the inlet for the oi. Its sits quite high and the top rear will gave sufficient oil |
