How much?
How much?
I'm a newbie to rotary motors. been use to the v-8 torque. but anyways im getting a 04 rx-8 mt and i have been looking at the ssr turbocharger. and i was wondering how much boost you can run on this 2 rotary engine. i know that a tune is everything but i wood like the car to last atleast 50k or so. could i pull 11psi with stock seals. or what minor changes would i have to do to pull some better tq numbers. any advice would help. thanks
you could run 20+psi on stock seals if you tune it correctly.
i think you run out of gas somewhere in the 260-280 whp range, so if you want more hp than that, you might want to go with larger injectors, at least for the secondaries.

V8 torque.....
You have to realise that 'torque' is just a number - a certain output at one particular rpm,
- a V8 doing 300 lbs-ft at 2k revs is putting out the same power as a small engine that does 150 lbs-ft at 4k.
- and if your motor can put out 150 lbs-ft all the way up to 8k, THAT is a lot of 'power'!
Good torque thread...

Nobody has pushed their car to that level yet. Nobody wants to be known as the "first guy to blow his engine." There are people that are running around 8-9 lbs. of boost. On the recent RX Tuner magazine article they tested Philodox's (a poster on this board) RX8 with the Greddy turbo kit installed and he went from 130 lb.-ft. of tq to 193 lb.-ft. Not exactly large V8 type tq., but a definitely noticeable improvement across the midrange. I'm sure the SSR/SFR turbo unit will provide similar if not more tq #'s. If you get to over 200+ lb.-ft of tq in this car it would be far more noticeable in this car (about 3000 lbs.) vs. a Mustang (3500+ lbs).
Like GJ said, it's all about fuel management. SSR will sell (as an option) larger fuel injector & water injection kit as well. If you plan to go above stock boost you should get this. Also swap out the stock plugs for something a bit colder (1 or 2 heat ranges colder) to prevent detonation.
