Is the greddy kit really worth it??? Do you really feel a big difference?

I really like the midrange gain in the tq. that I experience, and honestly this is the type of hp/tq that this car should have had when it came out. The kit does have it's issues though. Their is a slight bog at around 3800 rpm right before boost really hits, & the backfire issue is kind've annoying. It seems like this kit has all the mechanical parts figured out, but the electronics still need to be tweaked. By for $2900-$3000 it is by far the best power adder. For $1000 you have the CZ & tuning. For $5000+ Go for the SSR kit.

You know, it is strange to me that the tuning sucks for so many of you.
I plugged the stock Greddy MAP into my E-Manage and it works perfectly.

I've begun tweaking it for my own setup and looking to fix it for the rest of you with problems, but I have certainly seen considerably worse tuning from "reputable" companies.

Well im currently waiting for my turbo and its the second batch and they say that the second batch has all the minor bugs worked out of it ..... so it should be great

Yeah, I agree the parts of the kit are pretty good, but the only thing lacking is the tuning. That I the kit I got came with one less part (tubing) that I needed. They also included 1 extra of the large blue tube seals & one less medium size ones (not a big problem just used a spare black one we had). In calling Greddy they gave me BS about having to have the vendor that I bought the kit from, call the authorized Greddy dealer that they got it from put a request into Greddy for me to get the part. The kit & it's parts are very good, whoever is putting these kits together/quality control needs to be shot. In talking with the 350Z guys they have the same problem too. Parts seem to be missing, or they will get extra parts in their boxes.

that "blip" happens whenever you run piggyback fuel management on a non-turbo car

If you hook it up to an electronic boost gauge, then you can tune based on boost and that blip should go away - it'll be much smoother.

That "blip" only happens on a poorly tuned car.
I have no such blips and never had on any of the turbo cars I have tuned.
It is not a normal thing for piggy-back fuel management, just not unusual.

Your votes 3-4-1-0 so far are a little underwelming for us without, but dearly wanting to cross over to the turbo. I would've thought even with the niggling map/parts problems, the power / torque would have seduced. But a 4 for - 5 maybe/maybe not - oh my - where's the love after obtaining the long sought turbo-8? :confused:

An more indepth "turbo-8 as my daily drive" useage comments?

i voted maybe. i have the turbo but its still in the box. maybe it will be worth it maybe not.

but after reading, people have liked the performance and having been a member of this forum for one year, i can say that the geniouses in this club will work out the tuning bugs and help us ameteurs out...again....for which i am eternally greatful!

for $3000, this is kind of a hard price to beat on this turbo.


Just wait till people start upping boost, running 3" exhausts, tuning injectors and ignition, and perhaps swapping out for a different compressor wheel in the same housing (TD06H) - cuz I hear its a tight fit.

This is a very good kit. I voted maybe, just because of the problems in tuning. if they would have offered us an E Manage with no password that would have been much better, so that we can tune out the various software glitches. Luckily we have posters here that have helped (Thank You).

Also, making go back to my vendor, to go back to his reseller to order a pipe is kind've ridiculous. I mean it's a pipe, it's not like I came back and said the turbo or the E Manage unit was missing. It was their poor quality control packing this stuff and they want me to jump through hoops to make me whole. That kind've sucked.

I will agree though for $2900 it is a quality kit otherwise. I am not willing to drop $6300 (turbo kit on sale + engine management) to get another 50 whp on the other kit. That is 2X+ that price differential, that is just way too much off a $ difference. if they would have come out at $5000 for turbo kit & EMU unit I would have thought about it.

I am trying to get to the 275 whp-300 whp area, not the 400 whp area & risk blowing my engine. I think for what I am trying to do the Greddy kit is pretty good.

I put maybe, as I have to tune out the backfire & bog issue (& the pipe thing).

I agree with FANMAN because the SFR/SSR turbo is double the cost and isnt a complete "kit" if you look at all the details. I have just purchased my GReddy kit a few days ago and waiting for it to come in. In my opinon after reading other comments in other parts of the forum some Greddy owners with other Fuel mods, flywheels, and clutchs are making up to 273 whp which after all those mods+ the GReddy Kit youll still be under 6K which is were the SFR/SSr starts with missing pieces and after you buy the EMangnament or any other brand plus install and tunning youll be near 8K. So i definatly think the GReddy kit is a better option unless your going to try and boost over 300whp.

I think the tuning aspect has gotten some bad press primarily because of variations in the products being shipped, and the steep learning curve when experimenting.

There have been a couple of different combinations of firmware/map configurations shipped with the kits, depending on which batch you received. GReddy (e.g. - Benny) has been very responsive to our issues, even when we have painted ourselves into a corner.

We also have Philodox, MazdaManiac and RotaryGod to help guide us into the light. They, too, are learning about how all the pieces all fit together, and sharing their knowledge and expertise. To his credit, even Jon from PTP offered me assistance when I got stuck, too.

jon and jeff have been great...priceless help for all of us!
i have not installed mine yet, but i sent my software to Benny to make sure that i had the best program possible. he was very responsive and willing to recheck my unit at no charge.

based on what I've researched so far, Greddy kit definitely is worth the money IMO
my girlfriend is saving up to buy me this kit :P

its defenitly worth, after u get past the coup of minor ecu probs, ur straight, u should add extra fuel pressure with another pump if u wanna increase boost and hp but that being the only extra mod if u wanna beaf it up a lil, as i posted in anohter thread, im runnin 268rwp with lightenind flywheel,Rp Bonez Midpipe, borla catback at 7.7lbs of boost, the one thing that pissed me off was the emanage. untill the kinks were out the car ran like crap lol. O well Get The Greddy haha

Hey guys I'am not a Greddy owner but just wanted you guys to know , if you don't know already, is that Greddy should be releasing the new version of their E-Manage shortly, and it suppose to have allot more bells and whistles for you guys...I hear the price will be about Double the old unit which doesn't sound bad at all...
