Getting engine replaced soon, porting worth it?

So, I've got low compression and am in need of a new engine. I've read about porting but haven't really seen a straight answer from anyone who has done it. Some say it makes a difference, some not. I am going to get my engine rebuilt and my question is, is paying extra for porting worth the gains? This car is my DD so it would have to be the "street port". Anybody got a street ported engine, and was it worth the money that you paid? Some people advertise an extra 200 or so to do it if you're already getting an engine rebuild. Thanks.

As far as i am aware, other then the few that has done bridge porting, the general consensus from my engine builder is that you can only really clean out/smooth and slightly enlarge the exhaust port that can make it a little more powerful and stop carbon being trapped in the exhaust port.

There is obviously the intake ports too, but the limiting ports are those exhaust ports.

If money is tight, id highly recommend looking into other options such as balancing, side seals and grinding the sideplates. Before porting.

if this is a NA setup, the above options will make your engine more smooth and reliable

Whilst if it is for a boosted rx8, id look into RX7 height seals, and obviously stronger apex seals, i have seen first hand how weak the rx8 apex seals are.

This will leave you with room for error during tuning.

Searching and reading is worth much more

Thanks, I'll continue to look into it more in depth. Hopefully it will expand the engine life a bit more, not looking forward
to seeing low compression on a brand new engine but it's inevitable. You've been very informative, thanks.
