Esmeril Racing. E-85 stage 0 and 1

The Esmeril standard turbo kit is coming soon for my car. I was doing some reading on e85 in rx8s and obviously it would be nice for the extra octane and keeping engine temps down, but I've also heard some bad stuff on running it in rotaries, basically burning the lubrication from the seals. Now I would never think of running anything else in my 240 KA-T. It feels great the extra horses feels nice, the smell is ok I guess too:p: haha ya the milage sucks and I know would kill the 8 there but I guess I was wondering if anyone has the Esmeril e85 stage 0 or 1 on there rx8? I haven't seen anyone running corn in there rotaries yet, but why would Esmeril make it if it's a bad idea? Anyone else have any input? Do it, don't do it?

You haven't? Go to the Alternate Fuels forum on RX7Club.com

Thank you:) why have I not seen this...

And the lubrication burn off is BS. The fuel is consumed and the oil is left behind no different than gasoline.

Personally on boost you think the decline in mpg is worth it?

TeamRX8 07-24-2011 10:40 PM

If you are concerned with mileage then why own a rotary engine vehicle?

Wallets 07-25-2011 12:20 AM

Just as a comment while reading the posts on the rx7 site some of them have been running them with out issues for a couple years and others cant get it to work very well. Most people from my understanding say its not worth it because it burns more fuel which means you arent really saving gas? My question is I live in Wisconsin and e85 is everywhere is the only reason I am even curious about e85 kind of like Trick i am assuming...

For the rx8 you would only need to get bigger injectors and different fuel management and fuel pump correct?

Wallets 07-25-2011 12:26 AM

If you are turbo and run e-85 you may not need Snow if you are attempting to get a certain horsepower, because e-85 runs cooler than a higher octane fuel? That is the only reason to really run e85 that i am reading

Turblown 07-25-2011 08:14 AM

E85 is higher octane, its like running around on race gas for 1/4 the price.

Unless you are going to move to an external fuel pump, you will run out of fuel in boost with E85 as it requires 30% more volume than gasoline. There is no intake fuel pump that work with the OEM hanger that will supply enough fuel flow...

Phish806 07-25-2011 11:57 AM

I looked into this quite a bit. Still on the fence aobut doing this but now am already in need of another rebuild. Idecided that the Walbro 255 in tank feeding a swirl pot and two Bosch 044 pumps would have been the way to go. But, what do i know....

Sorry to have to disagree with you E., but...

It is only "higher octane" when you run it at ratios leveraged to the stoichiometric ratio of ethanol, which is 40% higher than gasoline.

Race gas is around $7 a gallon.
For every gallon of regular e10 that you would run in a turbo Renesis, you will need two gallons of e85 to achieve the same air/fuel ratios.
I don't know how it is up there in MN, but e85 down here is $3.15 a gallon.
So, it is nearly a wash.

Also, through testing, I have found that e85 can be anything from e70 to e95, depending on stuff.
That kind of variation can be catastrophic at worst.

e85 also has a shelf life of about 10 minutes (jk). That would drive me nuts.
But, I guess if you are going to limit the range of the vehicle to 100 miles on the road or 40 on the track before empty, storage isn't going to be an issue.

Also no longer the case.
Though, if I were to run e85, I would go to a double-pumper.
Not because I needed the flow, but because if I were so serious about the car's performance that I would consider an "exotic" fuel, I would have already installed a double-pumper just for the redundancy, even on e10.

BTW - You are gonna have to drop the "RWHP Record Holder" over your avatar. No longer true. lol

What if you travel outside of the midwest? I found a website for locating e85 stations across the US. There were only 2 in the state of Georgia. That is the only state I remember ATM. I'm certain you would have trouble locating the fuel in other locations.

And as the push to end ethanol subsidy gains traction, there will be even fewer as the only motivation for a station to use ethanol is an economic one.

Race gas costs more than $7/gal in many places.

True. It varies from $6 to $14 for the most part.

On average, I pay about $8 a gallon in CA when I'm there.

Im not concerned, if i were i wouldnt be boosting at all. Sorry for the question of OPINION..

TeamRX8 07-25-2011 10:29 PM

We're having a conversation. You have your opinion and I have mine, but you are the one who expressed mileage as a focus point; twice. E85 is all about performance. If this is not your #1 priority then don't do it.
