Anyone know anything else about this? Maybe dynos or such from foreign members?

Interesting but kinda expensive.

£3,361.99 GBP = $6,821.12 USD

SlayerRX8 12-05-2007 05:36 PM

Search. It's been discussed quite a bit here. Roots blowers are outdated in my book.

Wow, 1st time I hear that.

What about the Ford GT and Shelby GT500?

What about Kenne Bell superchargers?

They are pretty damn efficent in my books.

nycgps 12-05-2007 06:02 PM

Not for for 3300 something UK Pound.

I've read some Mag in HK about this SC, it gives ya the extra *punch* that the Rx-8 seriously lacks, but thats about it. Its plug and play, the piggy back system came with some very *safe* tune. So you can just plug and play (Flame Suit Eqiup)

for that price, you can probably get something *better* and get ya more horse power.

(For some reason, its STILL not listed on the USA Blitz site. I guess its not supported?)

NaarLeven 12-05-2007 07:39 PM

you forget how ridic taxes are in UK.

a rx8 in the UK is around 25k pounds or 50 grand in the ole US dollar.

NaarLeven 12-05-2007 07:40 PM

so theoretically that would be around 3-4k here

searched but no good info still

I doubt it's sized properly, but the roots blower is not dead. There are multi-lobe, twisted Roots-type blowers more efficient than some turbo systems.

Kenne Bells are twin screw superchargers, not roots.

Actually no, they are not "pretty damn efficient". They're the least efficient of supercharger types. Lots of heat and poor boost up top. And as stated before KB's are not roots.

For up to 10psi, there's zip wrong with a roots SC. If sized appropriately, you can keep efficiency from 60-66% on GenV models.

Similar sized units from Lysholm do around 60-65%.

Parasitic drag between the two is negligible.

a little note from accross the pond

After viewing this site along with others I purchased a Blitz supercharger back in July. Thought it is about time I contribute and clear up a few things.

Live and work in the uk (surprisingly for a mazda dealer) however ordered the kit from Blitz japan. I would advise to anyone interested not to order from Blitz UK - all they do is order it from Japan (it still will only come with Japanese instructions) and still not suitable (as far as im aware for uk spec rx-8).

The kit i ordered was straight from Japan - but blitz recommend certain thigns (usual stuff) - run on high ron fuel, not done more than certain mileage e.t.c - and your car must be Jap spec.

Thankfully my car is Jap spec (250ps) Type-S and so ordered the kit knowing it is not the most powerful - but for me the price was cheaper than a lot of other kits combined with good exchange rate at the time and because shipping was free as i put it on one of our company containers coming accross from japan. I also liked the idea of the electromagnetic clutch on the kit. Also to my knowledge at the time no one else in the UK had supercharged an RX-8.

Install of the kit wasn't too bad - all i had to do was make the tea - didn't have to relocate battery or change the air box (currently RB revi).

However the electronics Blitz supply for it (3 separate boxes for ignition, throttle and fuel) dont do a very good job. It appears that the basic fundamentals that blitz ran off were to force the injectors to stay open and overfuel the engine - NICE). Surprisingly drivability was mostly crap and unless you could exactly match the throttle to the fueling the car misfired (a lot).

After hundreds of emails backwards and forwards (using our shipping company as translators) japan finally turned round and said "all cars that have had this kit fitted in japan have had the same problems" - a note that would have been useful before i purchased the kit.

Now the car has almost been sorted. It has gone to a specialist who has fitted a water injection system and played about with the electronics. It should be ready tuesday.

Will keep you updated.

Hello Design_man,
your story sounds very familiar.....

Me and a friend, we also ordered the Blitz S/C from Japan (2 units), although we have the European spec Low Power RX8 (5MT). Actually my friend installed everything (in contrast to me, I did only the mechanical part) and although we got on his car 0.8 bar boost pressure and car was pulling hard, it was pinging and misfiring.

Could you keep me posted if you have any progress on "tuning" the electronics?
For myself, I am considering to install an E-Manage Ultimate (RX8 upgrade version) to do the tuning, as I was very frustrated by the pinging and misfiring of my friends car, but if there is a way to avoid it at this stage I would prefer....

Hope to hear positive feedback soon.

Regards,
George

Design_Man, i would be interested to know where you fit your WI.

sosonic 12-12-2007 07:04 PM

My thought on this is I like a ECU flash and not 3rd party EMUs....

Any kit I get will have an ECU flash with it. So far that's the Pettit Supercharger, but COBB's AccessPort is around the corner. The Blitz Supercharger with an ECU flash would be a different monster all together.

The issue for the Pettit kit is can it work for right-hand side steering wheel cars like in Japan and the UK.

COBB also is being weird about their ECU flash being U.S. only. I'm not sure if that is because they only have U.S. cars to test on. COBB could possibly work a deal out with some Japanese company (AutoBacs.... They have RX-8s) or Japanese Pro-Tuners like R-Magic, Re-Amemiya, etc.... to sell their AccessPort.

COBB would have a HUGE MARKET if they go international. It would also possibly solve the Blitz Supercharger driveability issues

George - Yes our stories do sound very similar. Especially the pinging and misfiring. Although as far as I am aware the Blitz Japan site does not list the kit as being designed for the 5MT RX-8 (only 6MT). Also like i mentioned it is supposed to be for Jap spec rx-8 only. However as I had the same issues with the pinging and misfireing who am i to say whats what.

The electronics have now all been sorted (picked the car up on saturday), and the car is absolutely fantastic (please find the DYNO attached – note the Max 219HP is for the NA car also on the map). The car drives much better than before and the supercharger makes a huge difference (surprise surprise).

The company showed me the supercharger map vs. a turbo they had done and there was little difference between the curves. The electronics that we used were HKS F-Con IS. Combined with a Map Sensor, PWR Charge cooler and radiator. The Blitz Duel DBC is still in the glove box. The supercharger is running @ 0.5 BAR.

Lennon – apologies it is not WI as was one of the original plans. The charge cooler was deemed to easily be up to the task – however I have still taken a picture. As the car is Jap spec the radiator for the charge cooler has gone where UK specs have the 2nd Oil cooler as standard.

sosonic - im not to familiar with COBB so i can't advise.

Enjoy the pics – I’ll certainly enjoy the driving. :)

Hope everyone has a great Christmas.

Im wondering can I get this kit, then *stripppped* their Fuel Managment completely and use my own.

I heard/Read that F-Con IS is very good, but not that many people knows how to work with it (Only certain HKS dealers)

gvang 12-27-2007 01:34 AM

Merry Christmas to everyone.
Design_man, I knew from the beginning that there is no specific kit for the 5MT.
But having in mind the use of a piggy back for management, I thought that it will be ok.
I ordered yesterday the e-manage ultimate which will hopefully arrive soon.
So i believe i will have more on the project in about 10 days.

What I found superb is the alteration of the kit by the use of the charge cooler. Very sleek idea! Could you tell me the size of it? Maybe you could pm me your source for getting it (together with a price)?

Again, happy holidays and a happy new year!

Actually you can.....

gvang 01-14-2008 12:11 AM

Ok, here is the update on my project.....
The E-manage Ultimate was installed, together with the throttle switch from blitz (to engage the clutch of the Compressor).
The car makes a lot more power, but it seems that the pulley for the High Power (6MT) kit must be different than that of the Low Power 4AT.
Design_man, a few questions....
I notice that regardless the rpm, when i floor the throttle, i have instantly 0.4 Bar (about 5 PSI) of pressure.
Do you have the same behavior????
I think because of the different pulley, the compressor works "out of design range" which also causes it to heat up the intake temp and therefore the overall efficiency is decreased, as the compressor constantly pumps a LOT of air.
Also, at some point, playing with the Boost controller, I got a 1.1bar peak!
It seems that the Boost controller cannot exactly control the amount of pressure set. For example it does almost no difference if i set it to "20" or to "40" or to "3". The pressure is almost every time over 0.4 bar.
Can you confirm this behavior ?
And one last thing. Do you also feel something like a small kick, the moment the clutch engages ?
Any help on this would be appreciated.
Regards,
George

how tho ? anybody actually did it b4 ?

the kit is kinda too expensive imo. I mean Blitz is a very well known company, but their US support is almost as bad as Greddy USA.

Plus there are a lot more options now. hehe ...
