Custom Turbo Kit

I was thinking about using this on my 6MT RX8 - It's a custom GT06 Garrett turbo with a 1.20 AR

Not looking for high HP numbers, just super fast spooling. I've already sourced an universal eBay intercooler kit as well. Gonna weld up my own manifold with aircraft grade T6061 Aluminum.

:)

should have instantaneouss boost and full boost by 2K rpm

RotaryMachineRx 11-02-2012 04:07 PM

Not normally what you want to here.... but damn that thing is small

Planning on turning ur redline down to 4000 or what?

Also to consider you will need a custom DP and a custom compressor outlet.....

Also a combination of exhaust and intake air restrictions through the turbo... will it be more of a hinderance than help at higher RPMs? To me it seems as though this small turbo could be a choke point for both exhaust and intake flow....

Good luck with the manifold if you make it out of aluminum :).....

You do know EGT's are upwards of 1900 deg at the manifold :)

SEMA 2012: Garrett Turbos for Every Engine, Large and Small - StangTV

. . . Garrett was showing off their GT06, a new addition to their product line, and pretty much the smallest turbocharger we’ve ever seen. Designed for engines ranging from 100cc all the way up to a massive half-liter in displacement, the inducer diameter is a bare 22.63mm, but it packs a punch – Garrett rates it as being capable of supporting up to 80 horsepower! It also has big-turbo features like an internal wastegate and an Inconel turbine wheel for durability. For go karts, small-displacement motorcycles, or the world’s most badass Junior Dragster, this is just the ticket.

Must be trying to yank us :)...and it's not even April yet ;)

WingleBeast 11-02-2012 04:31 PM

would that think even supply a NA renesis at full load? Stick a potato in one of your tailpipes and get a feel for how it will drive....

dannobre 11-02-2012 04:33 PM

Maybe one for each intake runner ;)

ShellDude 11-02-2012 04:35 PM

it would be novel to see two or three of these arranged off of multiple exhaust ports routed thru a single intercooler and waste gate.

ELI063 11-02-2012 08:33 PM

Wow you might lose that thing in a exhaust port ..... Jk

I've got a Craftsman 21hp tractor that would spool that up nicely :D

Its going to be for mock up since its cheaper than titanium .. once final prototype is finished than I'll make it of either SS or Titanium. Sorry, forgot to mention that it was for mock up.

LOL
Hey Mawnee ... just an fyi
You're custom kit is still running like a champ.

Going to take everything a part this winter to see what's what. (preventive maintenance)

2 years, 25,000 km's, 10 psi and 370ish g/s

cheers man

/end thread jack

bse50 11-03-2012 08:22 AM

I hope you're bolting that turbo to your enduro bike...

Why bother making a prototype out of something that won't work....just make it out of SS and be done with it....not like the aluminum is that much easier to weld or anything ;)

Slidin8 11-03-2012 07:32 PM

i think i could spool that turbo with my bodies own exhaust gas after a good meal of beans

willnordacgreen1211 11-04-2012 04:10 AM

damn dave.. thats pretty pathetic. why not run gt3071r? ball bearing and hits 10lbs by 3.5k rpm. or even a small 16g greddy turbo. I think that this turbo you have pictured will implode into another dimension at 9k rpm lol

bose 11-04-2012 08:15 AM

It'll work like a champ, one for each runner. Trollolololol

ShellDude 11-04-2012 10:35 AM

Coz I got this for free for testing. lol

bse50 11-05-2012 08:36 AM

Well no need to even test it. Look at the flow charts, it won't work.

ShellDude 11-05-2012 12:40 PM

It would work awesome on my 33hp mosquito scooter.

ShellDude 11-05-2012 12:41 PM

Err ... 33cc

jay_tibo 11-05-2012 02:40 PM

I run an Arctic Cat shop and use small turbo's like this on 2 stroke 600 to 800 snowmobiles, even on our 1100 4 stroke this turbo would be to small. It's not going to be able to get enough air thru, all you will end up doing is choking up the exhaust and heating up you intake air way to much. And besides the Greddy turbo is pretty good at spooling up fast and offers a cheaper solution that building a kit from scratch. I honestly think you will reduce to less then stock HP by bolting that thing on. It is a pretty nice paper weight tho.
