I've been helping a bud out with the only shipping boosted reflash in the world. It is kinda funny that Cobb now seems to have a bit more wisdom once by bud's files started shipping. I DO NOT KNOW that Cobb has taken a look at one of my bud's files but-

I can tell you that making boosted work with the factory PCM was no easy task.

I can also tell you that reading a tuned file back off a factory PCM is a piece of cake.

I think the timing is very suspicious.

Lastly, I can tell you that you will have one very expensive option for factory PCM reprogramming and one very affordable option and, if I understand correctly, one mid-priced option. The affordable one should ship first!

MazdaManiac 02-14-2008 07:22 PM

Right now, the only "shipping" option is the one from Florida and its popping motors.
Good work.
The Cobb has nothing to do with anyone else's work - it is complete bespoke and based on years of experience with Subies and Mitsus. They have unlocked every single parameter in the PCM. Its been in development for two years and they had it unlocked by SEMA in 2006.

Mine unit is on its way. I'll be able to provide tuning for anyone that wants it as soon as it goes out of beta.

You first.

Oh boy a trip to Vegas!

A Swedish friend of mine has a saying-
"Throw a stick into a pack of dogs and the one that yelps the loudest is the one that got hit"

I will reiterate, I DO NOT HAVE FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE that anyone at Cobb looked at those files. However, the timing is very suspicious.

As for doing damage with tuning tools, I can destroy a motor as quickly with a Motec as a Cosworth as a Pi as a.......... IF Cobb were shipping, I could destroy a motor with that as well. If given a chance, I could probably do it with a spanner. In short, it is the person behind the tool and not the tool.

I am certain that Cobb will do an excellent job of producing a very nice looking tool for the task at hand. I am equally certain that customers will get the exact same capability without having to pay for the pretty package. No matter what happens, people will have options and that can only be a good thing for customers.

You and me, buddy!
It would be cool to do an N/A and an FI 4-port at the same time.
Maybe we can get 09Factor to go, too. Make it a trifecta.
Now add Jesse and that is a full plate!
N/A, S/C 4-port, S/C 6-port, and turbo 4-port.
What are we going to do with all of these unused engine management units?

Still, quite an accusation.
In any event, I know for a fact that they did not. Its an entirely different process.

True.

Please look at it from my perspective; it is quite a coincidence.

That being said, I will take your word for it.

Jeff let me know when you're able to start messing around with the accessport as I've been really interested in this.

True.

You bet, come to Vegas and when this solves my tuning problem it will be free Margaritas at the Sun Coast for all involved (untill you pass out). In fact I will arrange for and pay for rooms for the whole bunch, just to get it going.

MazdaManiac 02-15-2008 09:58 AM

Well, Trey sent me an e-mail saying it was shipping yesterday, so we'll see.

That's great news indeed.

Not really :dunno: you can't really be serious, it's been under testing for over a year in addition to all the other products they've got going for multiple vehicles

If you have the product ready to go then let's see it

MazdaManiac 02-15-2008 04:01 PM

Cobb's system has been operational for two years!
Trey is a perfectionist, but he has been really dragging those of us that can sell the product through some fits.
I think that its just timing. I seriously doubt he is even aware of the competition. The RX-8 market is a very small slice for him as far as he is concerned.

HiTMaNN 02-15-2008 05:33 PM

Jeff you need to move up North and make it happen up here :p
