Boost controller of choice

Looking for a good boost controller been looking at the greddy profec or the apexi avcr but is there any others I should look at also want one that mounts well in the 8

I like the AVCR a lot.
Used it on two cars and it works ok.

Blitz also has some decent EBCs, same does HKS.

I like my Blitz Spec R.

Very user friendly.

Something that has the ability to be programmed to allow different boost in each gear and increase the duty cycle as rpms increase would be the ultimate .

I know the commercially available BCs don't have that feature, only the good PCMs do.

Doesn't BrettSpeed offer one anyway? Oh wait, that was the bewbs controller.

The avcr rocks

I have the HKS EVC VI which allows for boost settings based on RPM/Speed and Throttle.

The Greddy Profec E-01 also allows this function, although Greddy no longer produces it you could find it used or on ebay.

I have it, but haven't used it at all yet as I'm in the process of my turbo install now, so I haven't played around with any of the functions yet.

I know it allows adjustments at 8 different RPM points by changing the duty cycle of the solenoid to fine tune your boost curve.

You can also wire in an analog signal(ex:from your AFR gauge) and datalog(Only the info available to the BC) with it as well.

I am running the Grimspeed manual boost controller. Holds solid to 10PSI, easy as pie.

Wonder if anyone has tied to interface communication between the original ECU and a external device. Would be handy for this kind of application, and I doubt it is difficult if you have some detail knowledge about ECU.

For our education, could you explain a bit more why you want to change boost and duty cycle depending on RPM and gear? I've read that there is different maps for different gears originally, but do not really understand why:scratchhe

What is ... Scramble Boost .... ?

If you run a lot of boost in 1st and 2nd you just end up in a F&F movie when you nail the throttle . The rpm thing is because most setups need more duty cycle later in the rpm range to stop the boost dropping off .

Nitrous function. Increases max boost for a specified time.

Speaking of F&F. Haha! Go watch the drag race in #4 to see scramble boost in action. Lol

Just seen the new profec from greddy looks like a tidy little unit with boost gauge built in

Chris 10-26-2012 02:12 PM

the profec II has been out now for a few years

shifty 10-26-2012 02:14 PM

The new one

Chris 10-26-2012 02:20 PM

The profec ii has a boost gauge as well, jussayin

shifty 10-26-2012 02:28 PM

Yeah but its not as pretty:naughty:
