Block-off Plate
I am about to install my Greddy turbo-kit an in the box there is a intake manifold block off plate i was wondering if i can install the kit with out it? and if so (or not) what are the advantages or disadvantages of doing so??
|
installing it will make tuning easier and you'll be able to use the emu out of the box.
If you don't install it, you'll need to do tuning before you get into boost or you'll run lean and maybe cause engine damage. It's purpose is to block off 2 of the intake ports. Some view this as robbing you of power, but I don't think it's a big deal since the turbo can't feed the engine enough air at the upper rpms anyway... it's a judgment call. |
If GReddy were ever guilty of hillbilly engineering, this is it...putting in a blocking plate to restrict the flow so their puny 18g turbo doesn't get knackered as easily.
Just pathetic. Pathetic. |

nope
|
It's a poor solution to an improvised system. It's like converting your engine to a 4 port from the auto. The Greddy turbo just can't take advantage of the extra airflow abilities of the aux ports.
|
Right... it's not a great solution, but because of the flow on the greddy turbo itself, I don't think you're any worse than you would otherwise be with it off, since the turbo can't flow enough anyway.
PS: I can hold 10 psi to redline even in the warmer weather (85*) with the greddy turbo |
Where in the intake is the boost pressure measured in those kits?
|
usually the VFAD throttle body nipple.
|
Thx.
|
Don't the EMU and Int-x both prevent the opening of those aux ports though? So even if you don't install the plate the port valves won't open anyway. Just hypothesizing here... I still get lost with the amount of extra valves we have.
|
Actually, the way the Int-X gets around it is by keeping the ports open ALL of the time.
Fact is, in boost, it is the same either way - closed or open - with the relatively low flow needed for the sub-10 PSI that most people are running. It is merely the "shock" of opening them that GReddy is eliminating by keeping them closed (and MazSport by keeping them open). I find the idle suffers by keeping them open, so I open mine at 2800 RPM. |
Yeah, I get a noticeable 'bump' between 4500-5000 rpms when the ports open. When I get my new turbo, I'll have the XEDE pop them open around 2500 RPM.

So I Can
I have the E-Manage Ultimate so if i don't use the block off plate your saying it won't make a world of diffrance anyway since the turbo doesn't make enough air flow to begin with right? and if i don't run the block off plate what would my AFR be like? one more thing does the E-Manage Ultimate controll the extra 2 ports or will my factory ECU still controll them??
|
That's what I was thinking because I thought the Int-x kept them closed as well.
But now that I think about it, if you pressurize the intake system some of that air could escape past the aux port valves, hence the need for the block off plate. |

|
Then would air get by because of the increased flow?

E-manage Ultimate
What if I use Methanol injection in conjunction with no block off plate will I still run lean after 5600 rpm with out changing my parameters on the E-manage Ultimate? Will 98 octane fuel reduce the effect of detonation?

Step away from the car... Read this thread https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-aftermarket-performance-modifications-23/so-you-wanna-tuner-100333/ . |
thanks
Thanks for the insight. So i should just install the block off plate then, because i don' thave the software to tune the turbo. So for sure it will cause Detonation with out adjusting the fuel map? here is a link to my car so you guys can check it out http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2418023 thanks again for the advise.

you can get the software from mohdparts.com - it's a free download.

The E-Manage is locked do you know the way to unlock it? and if it unlocks will it erase all the settings on the E-Mange?
|
i posted the unlocked map in the emanage forums. it overwrites the existing map, but is the same map as what's currently locked on your unit.

There is no need to re-invent the wheel and it is certainly bad form to ask us to do it for you. |
