Air straightener(honeycomb) How did you install them?

well I bought a MAF tube and Air straightener from Treadstone performance. I've been thinking about how to install the straightener without disturbing too much air.

It wouldn't solder and I didn't want to melt it with brazing so I just decided to use a little epoxy on the outer edge. Everything looks good, but I was just wondering how others are installing them.

The air straightener needs to be carefully folded at the edges to fit in the pipe so it is a tight fit and should not move. For added security you can apply some gasket sealant to keep it in place.

The 3,5" I bought fitted perfectly into Racing Beats MAF tube. just tight enough to be fixed, but no deformation of honey comb.

I placed it on a table, then gently forced tube down over it.

EDIT: bought mine at Treadstoneperformance.com

^---- what he said but i used a bit of epoxy for added peace of mind.

Joke aside, I have opened afterwards, and its still fixed. But then again, I'm naturally aspirated.

Yeah, I Folded in just the cut pieces on the outer edge very gently and it fit really tight, but I was still concerned that at high flow rates it might move. I have it in an aluminum tube also not silicone or plastic.

Thanks for the reply's.

I purchased the screen already installed in a custom maf tube from mrp machine on ebay. The pricing was way better than treadstone and I got it in a longer lenght. Works great with my Greddy setup and I'm tuning with MM.

The problem with mrp is the id is not the same so it will require rescaling your maf.

Treadstone is the correct id

9krpmrx8 03-19-2014 01:55 PM

I have no issues with the pipe I had made from MRP, I did not have to rescale my MAF.

logalinipoo 03-19-2014 02:05 PM

This is from memory but mrp's 3.5" pipe is 3.25 id.

Thats not much differance from the stock 3.375 id. But it is a little off. You didnt get a little richer or a little more g/sec?

I tried to have a custom one made by them and it just didn't work out. I was going to get 3.75 od 3.5 id 1 ft long with air straighteners on both sides. I never received it then was told their shop was shut down for 3 weeks. So i went with treadstone.

9krpmrx8 03-19-2014 02:12 PM

Nope, I didn't even retune after installing it and I have made two intake setups for two other Greddy turbo guys and they have had no issues either.

logalinipoo 03-19-2014 02:15 PM

Whats the greddy id? Isnt it a little off stock? I thought thats why people were modifying arm to fit their greddsys.

9krpmrx8 03-19-2014 02:17 PM

This was the original prototype and it is working well for us but I am in the process of fine tuning it by eliminating a couple of couplers.

Here is my current setup PC black. It is being changed though, I have some pipes getting welded and then they will go off to PC. The new design will be first run on my car and another locals car who is going turbo as well right now.

Pc? Thats a clean engine bay.

9krpmrx8 03-19-2014 02:26 PM

Powder Coat.

I should mention however that I do suggest doing intake changes prior to tuning. And a retune is probably a good idea afterwards even if the car feels the same.

Heres my current one and i have the filter directly on the maf tube. Im not having any problems, but Im thinking of move ing the maf tube to the engine bay or just extend the filter.

9krpmrx8 03-19-2014 02:38 PM

The less bends the better. The only issue I have found with my setup is the variations in bumpers. Everything fits fine with the stock bumper and mazdaspeed but for the vertex it had to be modified.

logalinipoo 03-19-2014 03:13 PM

I am begenning to hate this ib app.

My intake is just temporary so i can retune the maf on the low end. And see how much change there was between this tube and the stock tube.

logalinipoo 03-20-2014 12:53 AM

9K can you get an ID on the GREDDY MAF tube and your MRP one?

I just reconfirmed the MRP advertises 3.25"ID and treadstone 3.375" ID It's only a 1/8" but it is still something.

9krpmrx8 03-20-2014 09:02 AM

Yeah I can tonight, I still have the Greddy one somewhere.
