270 to wheels! Thanks to mazsport!

Recently I had my car sent to a shop in ohio called "TheDreamCarFactory" to have my greddy turbo installed along with a aftermarket clutch, flywheel ect... Well they had my car for 3 months!!! Finally they give the car back not running correctly and not tuned! I was very dissapointed. So i decieded to do it the right way called scott at mazsport he sayed "send it down and we'll get it done" Meanwhile I was so dissapointed I contemplated giving up on the car and getting a porsche. But I thought maybe scott can do it. So shipped the car and he found problems with the car, major ones! The previous shop that worked on it installed a clutch that was destroying my tranny. He replaced the teeth for me and upgraded my battery(everyone knows about the original battery being to small in rx8's). To make a very long story short. All the while all the communication between me and mazsport has only been through email because i work overseas and could not get to a phone. The car was delivered yesterday back to ohio running beautifully, smooth like a dream. I am once again stoked about the rx8. 10.5 psi of fun! I decieded to write this thread to show how much i appreciate the great customer attention i recieved and awsome service. Its not too often now a days that you find a shop, company ect.... that really does a good job and thats why i decieded to write this thread. Great job mazsport thanks Scott and to all your crew!

That's great. I'm pretty lucky since Mazsport is only like a 45 minute drive from my residence, so any tuning needs in the future will be easy for me.

What kind of exhaust are you running? 270whp doesn't seem to be that much for a tuned GReddy/Int-X combo.

I realize you might not have all the info since it seems like you probably haven't even driven the car yet. But, can you elaborate a little on the power numbers? I would have guessed that 10.5 psi would give you a few more than 270 ponies - unless you asked for a very conservative tune.

I asked for a conservative tune because I was worried about burning up the injectors and i didnt want to deal with anymore problems.. Probably could have gotten more aggressive with it im sure but i wanted to be safe :P

Hows your gas in Ohio ? I think Moostafa can comment on how poor it is here in Cali., and how 91 octane out here is about equal to an 89 octane tune anywhere else.

Yeah, the gas here in CA is really bad. My ignition was about as aggressive as can get without pinging. The downside of doing that was that I could notice pinging if I got anything other than 76 or Shell. So not all 91 at stations are equal.

I'm in San Diego, and while I don't have any mods done to my car yet, I run Chevron 87 and my car runs like a top. No idle issues, pulls hard all the way to 9k, and best of all I got better gas mileage changing over from 91. Chevron has the best gas hands down. The techron is great for keeping the engine, injectors, and vital components clean.

Octane really doesn't make a difference if you're NA.

you know what's funny is a "conservative" tune (richer afr's) actually increases the duty cycle of the injectors and is harder on them.

It's funny to me that a week ago 270hp would be about an average ticket coming off a Greddy turbo, now you say 270 and everyone looks at you like you have something in your teeth. You guys forget that the greddy turbo is running on stock fuel pump, stock injectors, and the smaller snail.

~270 is totally normal for just about any tuned greddy. backpressure upgrades, wastegate tweaks, etc will push the boost curve out to the right and get you a few more, but not much. 5.5psi, 9psi, 10.5psi...all 270whp with widely varying peak torque numbers. That's just all the peak power that turbo supports on this motor.

^ notice how at higher boost the torque begins to drop off even earlier, and it will eventually merge with the torque curve of a lower PSI pull.

Forgive me if this has been answered before but what kind of money are you talking to hit 270 whp? Also what are average 0-6- and quarter mile times?

I hit 287whp at 7psi with $7k. I'm at 9psi now, so I should be a little higher. You could probably do the same for a little over half of that if you use used parts.

a lot also depends on supporting mods. aftermarket catback, catless midpipe, stuff like that, which I am not factoring into the price since it's items you could have gotten well before the turbo.
