20B Grand Am motor

Hey guys, with all the talk about the Grand Am GT that will have a 20B motor in it, won't this make it easier to find 20B parts since they will have to be made for the race team....Does anyone know if this will be a fact.

Also does anyone know right now , who I would contact to buy a 20B ,that I can trust.... And at a decent price....I'am starting to get a 20B bug in me for my RX8...

Any help in this direction would be appreciated, unless of chourse someone has broken the 400whp on the Renesis Motor, then I would be more than happy with that.....

the best place to find 20B fast is in ebay. Other than that just look around a reputable rotary shops. It took me a while to find mine.

Nope. Mazda is making no more 20B parts. There is only a finite supply of them in the world so anything being used by the race team is either a rebuilt engine or out of production pieces that have never been used yet. You can still find a few of these here and there.

We don't have big problems finding 20B parts here in Puerto Rico,
"Pica Motors" sales everything for this engines,
they imports everything from Japan.
All the parts are brand new and came on original Mazda box with their part number.
There is also other vendors but "Pica Motors" has the bigger inventory.

a few months ago he has more than thirteen 20B engines for sale on his shop!

If any one needs some 20B parts, contact us and we can give you their phone number,

Manuel

I thought Mazda is taking custom orders for the R20B motor and the $200,000 mazdaspeed tubeframe car... Maybe the production stopped for normal 20B parts, but the GrandAm motor is R20B, periperhal intake and exhaust.

Hey thanks RX8PR, give me the number I call them, but I would like to tell them that I know you and maybe they will take care and watch for a good 20B... If you want PM me with your number to , so I can talk with you also... Thanks again....

And anyone else if you know anyone with a good 20B for sale let me know... Hey Rotarygod, if there are no new parts out there how can these guys compete in the Grand Am with used parts that's a little insane , ain't it...

I also wonder where to find a subframe for the RX8 and if I will have to relocate steering or anything major.. anyone chime in please

hmm sweet first i've heard about it (but i've been away for a quick min.). i have heard that mazdaspeed is making the engines for the Grang Am gt (but wasn't aware it was called the r20b and was per. ported) cars and you could order the engine components and body (carbon fiber) etc. from them. haven't really checked it out since i don't have the disposible income for something like that.

would be nice if they were making 20b engines (of any kind) again.

Here is the information about pica motors,

probably he can give you a higher price............... just a joke!

Thanks RX8PR I'll call Friday... Is there anyway to prefab the motor mounts from you or someone you know , or does this have to be done as we are installing the motor . I'll pay someone if there is a template for this. It looks to me much simplier than the rx7 subframe were it has to relocate the steering box... Let me know , also some better pics or this would be greatly appreciated....

There are only about 8 or so 4 rotor Mazda engines in the world so if you ever see any race cars from books or any new ones in the future with 4 rotors, you know where the parts came from. As far as the 20B goes, you reuse the end and intermediate housings, and the eccentric shaft. The rotors, rotor housings, gears, bearings, etc are compatible with the 13B. The side housings are usually the most reusable parts in an engine. You can resurface side housings and they are as good as new. While you can only do this only so many times, even a relatively small world supply of these engines is more than enough to keep a couple of small race teams supplied with plenty of parts. I don't see the issue with it. Not every person running multi rotor engines in the world is using Mazda parts either. There are several people who custom make 3 and 4 rotor kits based off of 13B parts and sometimes just completely new fabricated pieces.

Let's find out how much of an engine (13B, 20B) we can build with non Mazda parts if we had to. Racing Beat sells all aluminum end and intermediate housings. Guru Racing sells a custom machined eccentric shaft that allows for a center bearing in the engine. They also make 3 and 4 rotor eccentric shafts. The make brand new stationary gears. Atkins, Rotary Aviation, Ianetti, etc, make apex seals and corner seals. McMaster-Carr sells teflon encapsulated o-rings that work wonderfully for the coolant seals and Viton seals for the oil control rings. There are those who can custom make dry sump oil systems as well as a host of other things. There are even aftermarket engine tension bolts and studs that are much stronger. What does that leave us with as Mazda parts? Bearings, side seals, oil control rings (not the rubber seals in them) and rotors. That's it. Based on al of the above parts, you can build a 2,3, or 4 rotor engine and only need the few same pats from Mazda. Those are plentiful. People will still call their engine the same thing.

The whole point of that wasn't to say that the Grand Am teams are using non Mazda parts. For how many engines they need, they have a good enough supply of new and usable parts to last for a while and the more people that use custom built parts, the greater the supply for those who do use Mazda engines. If supply drops and demand increases, we've got many alternatives (better ones!) that can pick up the slack.

Rotarygod, that's what I like to hear, information like this is very much appreciated.. Thanks.

Now if anyone can tell me about , how to go about with the motor mounts, subframe for the
RX8....

RX8PR 04-06-2006 06:46 PM

Find someone with experience doin this swap that can make the custom motor mounts
and work the subframe for you.
Without experience it can take to much time and hard times.........

Greddyturbo1 04-06-2006 09:55 PM

RX8PR, thanks but I don't know anyone in the Chicagoland area that is familiar with this type of swap for the RX8....

If I'am wrong don't shoot me, just let me know.. So if anyone in the chicagoland area knows how to do this let me know.....

R.P.M. 04-08-2006 01:16 AM

Have I got just the thing for you!!

I'm trying to sell my 20B that I've had for a while now.
http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.ph...50#post5508550

This motor would be garrenteed to put down some very serious power with the right turbo setup.

I'm also very interested in helping someone do this swap for their RX-8. I actually have a Magazine climbing down my throat wanting full exclusive step by step coverage of the swap to be featured in the magazine!

So if anyones interested, let me know asap.
