i also recieved and installed my audiolink a lil over a week ago. i love it so far! the install is incomplete though...got to get some 8-pin mini-din extension. unfortunately i only need like 2 feet, and the shortest i found was 6 feet o_O

I received my audiolink usb drive within a week of shipping (I'm in Australia - so that's quick).

Installed it today and it works great.

For right hand drive rx8's the install is a breeze. It took me around 7 minutes from the time I opened the packaging to having it working, and half of that time was working out how to remove the glovebox.

I decided not to route it through to the cupholders, instead the unit is in my glove box. out of sight.

For those with slim/small hands with right hand drive, just remove the glovebox, and reach around behind the centre console. you should be able to feel a thickish wire and next to where it plugs into the unit, you will be able to feel the port the unit fits in. with a bit of luck and dexterity you will be able to just plug it in and away you go.

Note: if you want to route it to the cupholders then you will have to remove the head unit.

Copy one or more MP3 songs to you drive, this problem will eliminate.

I own a MX5, and have a couple issues, so far. I will not go into playlist mode. When i hit the Disc + - Button on teh head, it will read EX2, hit it again and EX3, etc. But nothing happens. and the Nano display stays on, not as documented, It should say "Do not disconnect". Today at lucn time I was out and hit the Disc - button, jsut to see if anything would work and now it doesnt even go to EX2. Turn the Head off and back on and its goes to EX1:66 and its back to regular mode.

This is not a huge deal to me, but it would be nice to have playlist mode, as I want to keep the Nano hidden away in the golve box. My prior vehicle, had a HU that would play MP3s, singe disk, I alwyas just left one disk in and played it, what ever was next. So what I have now with the Audiolink is not much different.

I know this is a RX8 forum, but seems the best info on the Audiolink is here.

Any suggestions??

Donny chime in if you want. But I have already emailed you about it.

two reason perhaps:
1. the connector plug to you ipod is loose, reconnect it.
2. you ipod's version is too low to work, upgrate the ipod software.

Nothing but MP3's, but I figured out what it was doing. It was selecting a track beyond how many were on the flash, like it didn't really know how many total tracks were there. Once it recognized it wasn't a valid track, it went to the first track alphabetically.

What's weirder, though, is that first track wouldn't show as 1:1. It would actually show some random track (2:27 or 1:65, e.g.). Very weird. I had initially loaded up the drive but then added a few tracks later and deleted a few. I think that somehow threw it "off" re: what the current song list was.

What I did was, removed all songs, formatted the drive, then put the songs back on, all at once, just in the root directory (no folders) and haven't added/deleted since. It's playing fine and, moreover, plays everything alphabetically.

Tried both already

Tried both ideas already.

Brand new Nano, also tried a Ipod Video, same results. The plug is in firmly, have unpluged and repluged several times. Put only 3 playlists on my Nano, to see if that made a difference. Nope

I thinks its defective. Im waiting to hear back on that.

I hate to think about taking it all apart again. Uggg

Always on?

My ipod keeps charging while my cars off, is it supposed to do this and what kind of drain is this on the battery?

scsi 07-09-2006 07:06 PM

ya its supposed to do this. they say it takes a negligable amount of power, similar to the amount of power it takes to make sure the clock remembers the time

Technically, yes. The USB AudioLink will read the songs (MP3s only) off of your iPod's hard drive an play them, assuming the iPod is formatted for Windows. However, you would not have the ability to use the iPod interface to control the iPod in this configuration.

presequel 08-02-2006 01:38 PM

thank you. i've decided to get the ipod with 1/8

just placed my order.

I would also love an option that included a video output and a 1/8 input so I can use a video ipod and use the input for my XM Radio.

Well, it doesn't currently exist, but I will make a request with the factory to see if I can get it made. Thanks!

Is there any chance that the USB version of audio link will be able to fast forward / rewind through songs at some point in the future?

exarkun 08-15-2006 11:05 AM

Any solution to the EX options sometimes dissapearing? I'm getting sick of disconnecting my battery once a month...

iPod/MP3 Player Integration Solution

Just got the iPod/MP3 Player Integration from Revolution Performance Motorsports and had it installed. It is AWESOME! Thank you RPM! It works with the steering column controls and everything. Even looks like a factory installation.

Well count me in as another one who lost the power to the cd player because of this device. I am one of the ones who also bought the improved chipset too. Had to remove my battery cable to get the cd player to work again. I say send this thing back on the slow boat to China!

I'm not sure. It hasn't been implemented in over a year, so I'm leaning towards no. They're using a hardware decoder, so it may be that it's just too difficult to get it to jump around in the song, or perhaps not accurately. I'll shoot the manufacturer an email to see if I can find out why it hasn't been done.

Shoot me a PM with your order number (and state if your shipping address has changed). If it's a recurring problem, we will replace the unit.

You may also refer to my previous message if you are also experiencing recurring problems.

Today I installed the audio link unit. A couple comments for posterity:

My Mazda dealer had installed the MP3 CD drive when I got my RX8 a couple years ago. The mechanic must not've put back the mystery bolt after he did the installation because it wasn't there. If anyone has trouble finding it, see if the head unit will slide out after only removing the two screws behind the ashtray.

Also, after plugging the audio link in, I wasn't able to switch to its mode nor was the iPod charging, despite the audio link cable being plugged all the way in. Upon inspection, I discovered that two of the pins on the back of the stereo port were bent (resulting in the pins not going into the slots on the audio link plug). They were easy to straighten out with a small screw driver.

The audio link system sounds good. There's no weight to it and I bet it's got all of $20 worth of parts (if that). But for $119 shipped, it's still well worth it for the convenience of using the steering wheel and head unit controls.

Can I see apic of this installed please?

Falcontx

Just got my firmware upgrade intstalled and within two days, I had this issue where I can't access the cd or ex Ipod unit anymore. Had to disconnect the battery again.

I thought this firmware upgrade would fix this problem. I had the problem once with the original device and now with the upgrade.

ideas?
