Wire size
What gauge wire is the wire that run the 194 lights on the doors? I need to get some wire taps, and I wanted to know what size to use.
Thanks |
Let me rephrase: Most of the wire under the dash is the same size. What size is this wire? I want to tap it with something like this but I need to know what gauge the wire is. Anyone have any idea?

man... vampire taps are the WORST... i hate fixing bad connections that people make by using those things. get yourself a pair of quality wire strippers and solder your wires together and tape them with quality 3M Super33 electrical tape.

Even if I practiced for the next year and got REALLY good at soldering, I still wouldn't bend over backwards, shove my head / upper body in my footwell, and proceed to solder wires over my head.
Vampire taps get the job done (if they are done right) and are a workable solution. They also happen to be the solution I've chosen to add power to some lights to the footwell. It's not a mission critical modification. So, while I appreciate the opinions, I'm still stuck at step one. :( |
Simply use protective glasses when soldering upside down. And if you are half-decent, there won't be any dripping anyway.
But if you don't want to go that route, crimps are still much better than vampire taps. ---jps |
When I installed the shock sensor, the limited space was very daunting and difficult to work with. I can't imagine trying to solder with my arms pressed against my chest like that. But I might just be a wuss.
Can I go inline with a crimp like I could a vampire tap? If so, can you link me to a product view? Thanks. |
