Will Dynamat Dampen RX-8 Engine Sound?

I'd like to Dynamat my trunk at the very least to help tighten up the bass from my sub. I have been told by an audio shop that if I were to do the doors and roof as well it wouldn't dampen the engine since that emanates from inside the car, but would keep road and wind noise down. I love the sound of the rotary and wish to keep it coming in (when my radio is turned off of course). Does anyone have an opinion that has had their RX-8 done and did it decrease the engine's sound? Is the audio guy full of crap or telling the truth?

Thanks.

I have Dynamat in my trunk and it doesn't detract from the engine sound at all.

My boss put something in his airplane that sounds similar to "dynamat". It is a thin (about 1/8" thick) material he cut with scissors and has an adhesive back. Looks like refrigerator magnet. You shape to areas where there is no insulation. Is this similar to what you are talking about or is it thicker foam?

If you did the doors, trunk, and roof, I don't think you would lose engine sound. the hood and inside engine compartment, you might.

Cool. Thanx! I'm going to get my system put in fairly quick and may have to look into it. Thanx again

I don't know how you'd be able to keep out engine noise. Maybe if u dynamatted the firewall? dynamat in trunk and doors won't affect engine noise. I drive a loud ass first gen rx7 (god it sounds good) and i understand when u wanna keep the engine noise :)
