Where do you put your XM?
The best place to mount your XM radio unit in the 8?
I have the SkyFI and had it put in the glovebox. Looking to put is someplace else but havent had the time to do a custom install.
Were you able to get it to work with the FM Modulator?
yes although i had big time reception troubles. I would get alot of static. I switched the frequency and now it seems to work fairly well. Still waiting for an aux in to the radio to be built. the sound quality of an fm modulator is not good in general.
I put mine in the cupholder. These pics are not of my car, I got the idea from them. Do a search on xmradio (no spaces) to read the thread.
It's not too inconvenient to get to, but you have to look down to see info.
So do you use the FM mod. like they are talking about in that linked thread? If so, how does it work?
You have to use the modulator unless you have a cassette deck. It taps into the car's antenna cable. The guy who installed mine said he found a connection up under the dash on the driver's side. I've seen some threads where people have said you need to pull the head unit to get to the antenna.

When I said "how" I meant is it static or clear? Any problems?
I have the Roadie, and mounted it on my dash, just behind the washer/wiper stick. Ran the wires out the back, under the steering wheel column, and hard-wired it to the fuse box. I tried the FM modulator, but the sound quality, and lack of bass was not acceptable to me. Instead, I used the casette adapter that came with it. The sound quality is excellent, but I have a single wire coming from the tape deck that I wish was not there. It's not all that noticible, but I prefer it over the FM modulator.

I put mine in the cup holder. Its hard to read the display while your driving, but its easy to hide, just slide the cover closed.

I use the combination power adapter+FM modulater. I have it plugged into the power port in the rear center console, next to the dvd unit.
No need to take apart the radio head unit or complicated wiring. It sounds good, but it i think it would sound better through an aux in. The bass and treble levels have to be readjusted when listening to the xm unit for the best sound. |

I finally got my Delphi installed. Had it custom done because I wanted it mounted on the ceiling between the light console and sunroof. Awesome place so the passenger can see the song and artist without looking down and back and I still have my cupholders and it's not in the way. They did a good job but charged $100. They also had to mount the antenna on the trunk lid because it couldn't shoot a clear signal through the back windshield. The only negative is they drilled holes where they mounted it, but it's ok because I'm not getting rid of my 8!

Sure, give me 24 hours

Cam isn't the best but this is the install on the ceiling. It looks off centered a little but that's because I'm sitting off centered cause of the cool console in the back.
