What's the deal with Mazda's Shift knobs?

Mazda Accessories sells an RX-8 shift knob, however the description says, "For Automatic Only." I understand that it's just a modification to give the appearance of a manual. I have a manual, however, and all of the paint has worn off my shift knob. Of course, Mazda Accessories doesn't sell a shift knob for the manual. Is there any actual difference between their "For Automatic Only" shift knob and a manual one?

Theres a lot of us who "upgrade" our shift knobs, so you're going to save a ton of cash buying a used one in good condition..

That's what I am planning on doing, I was just curious whether I could get an actual new one though.

buy the ms knob, its all black and round

I'm not a real big fan of the look of the MS knob. The rotor shaped knob is too awesome.

Have you tried the local parts dept.? I can't imagine the dealer not being able to get you a stock one.

the auto one says rx8 on the top of the knob rather than having the shift pattern. other wise its exactly the same

How tough is it to install the illuminated version? It seems like it may be a lot of work for not much benefit.

Knobmeister, what abbid meant to say was that in order to advertise here, you need to be a registered vendor. You can an email to admin@rx8club.com or a pm to Omicron for more info :)
