What 10" subs are the best bang for the buck?

That's the question - I know JL Audio subs are very good but they tend to be a bit pricey. Which are those 10" subs that give excellent, clear, deep bass but are also a good deal? I'm going to have a 200W RMS amp channel pushing it.

Thanks for the ideas, folks.

Say Tamas--as you know I have your same amp (Alpine 5-Channel) I recently switched from my Polk/Momo 8" to an Infinity Kappa Perfect 10"--it was about $119 or so. IT BANGS! It gets low--18Hz. I have all Infinity Speakers around to boot. I recommend it. The Polk/Momos are good too; with this 10" setup I can turn it up if I need to parking lot pimp or keep it grown-folks for the ride in to work.

I've heard good things about the Infinity Kappas as well, but specifically their 6x9s, which can add bass in an application where you don't want a sub.

I think my JL Audio 10 was around $100 at Tweeter. I put a single 10 into a small box with a Kenwood 250W amp driving it, and used it with an otherwise-stock Integra Type R system. I also used an identical sub/amp/box combo with an Aiwa head and MB Quart speakers in a 4th gen Prelude and was very happy.

I get 10w3 @$120 which I think is great price from how they perform
also the kicker comp vr is a cheap and great speaker.

Looks so far the Kappa Perfect 10" is the choice... looks good on paper, so I may go with that.

Keep the ideas coming :)

Eclipse makes great subs, they aren't super cheap, but well worth the price. Even the low end subs sound great. Great sound quality and they hit hard.

2nd that. Get the aluminums, they sound good & hit hard plus price is decent. The titaniums are just awesome but costs just as much as JLw7's.

The kappa perfects are awesome--I just came from a night of successful parking lot pimpin' :p it gets the wheel watchers attention. ;)

Not quite enough power for the Eclipse aluminums to do their job properly, drop down to the Hybrid series of Eclipse subs. I would also give the ID subs a serious look over as well.

Ive had alot of fun with my 2 10" Alpine type R's i got 2 for about 180 of ebay and im pretty sure they just came out with some added features but i know mine are dual voice coil and runs at like 350rms each and peaks at 1000watts. They sound great running at 250rms too

MrWigggles 11-21-2005 12:18 AM

10W0 is going to be a little short on the power handling for 200 Watts but a very good value.

The 10W3v2 is probably my best bet. The new 10W1's might be the best but I have not heard them yet.

Boston Acoustics G5/G2 series subs require only .5 cubic foot enclosures which is perfect for our small trunks. It is the only thing that I think comes close to a JL 10w6v2 in terms of cost vs. performance without breaking the bank.

I got 2-10W1's with a JL500/1. They sound awesome. I bought them the week they came out, and paid $99each. Not sure what they cost now, but I'm very happy w/ the purchase. I've put sound deadener over the entire trunk, and most of the backseat area, including the reardeck top and bottom, and the subs still find something to rattle. They definitely hit harder than I can handle if I turn it up.

i've got a pair of JL 10w1v2's and i want the right amp to power them. im undecided between the JL500/1 and the 300/2. the speakers are rated for 150 W RMS in there optimum range according to JL. which is the better buy?

I will say for a good price it will be the new Kicker Comp. I just owned a '05 Accord 2 months ago and I traded it for a used Rx-8. I have a new Kicker Box with 2 Kicker Comps. I am not using the box and the amp anymore; it is only 2 months old. I am selling the box with the amp for $250.00. The reason why I am selling it so cheap cause my Rx-8 needs new tires and they are pretty expensive and those $250 can help buying the tires. If anyone is intrested please call me at 347-393-9079. I live in New York. My name is Robert.

I forgot to mention the amp is a Rockford Fosgate 850 RMS.

How is your system set up? im keeping the stock HU adding the audio control 6xs with the JL 500/1 amp and two JL 10w1v2 8ohm speakers in custom fiberglass enclosures. im going to wire the speakers in parallel for a 4 ohm load. im not sure how and where to integrate the 6xs. ive done the search and im a little confused. BTW i paid 125.98/speaker

kirksaeter88 11-26-2005 01:54 PM

I got a pair of Alpine typer 10s and they sound excellent and I paid about 200 for them. the new typer sub handles 500 rms
