Labop
The V1 has two volume controls. One sets the alert volume and the other sets the muted volume. It also has a speaker output but I think the audio system would have to be able to automute ZZ Top when it recieved a signal in from the speaker output. |
true :)
They sell a remote audio adapter for the V1. This will give you a head phone jack and a seperate volume knob.
its way loud.. I can hear it np with the Floyd blaring in the backgroud :)
what did you use to cut the plastic piece and what how did you measure it? it rouned a little bit isn't it (im not genius at this and im poor at lining stuff up and cutting especially with a rotary tool)
use a small band saw.. or a jig saw.. just cover the nice edge in blue painters tape. then draw your lines and cut.
I bought 2 extras from Trussvill mazda. just in case. I only needed one :) |
ok.. the remote console face plate is not noticable at all from out side.. it looks like the rest of the red lights and stuff in the radio.. so dont be worried about that.. As for mounting it in the rear window.
I did call V1 and ask them that question.. they said that the unitwill work good there to.. but may miss some of the up front bogies that far back. If you live where a Radar dector is not legal then yes. get the back window tinted and mount it up high.. not low in the rear window. But make your tint guy cut a small whole for the radar dect to see through. My back window is tinted with 5% and the V1 has np working with that dark of tint. But If i were going to mount it back there then i would have a small hole cut in the tint for the rear sensor on the v1 to see through. :) Good luck. btw you cannot see the unit in my front window at all. it is hidden just under the dark mesh tint that hides the rearview mirror. Mounted there. I remember to remove it when i leave the car. Also you cannot shut off or dim the remote display. once its plugged in it shuts off the main units display and then makes the remote unit light up. It does get darker at night. it sense the light in the cabin and adjust it accordingly not sure what you are worried about wiht your homelink mirror. ? its light senssor is in the back of the mirror facing out the front windshiled |
Also .. if you mount the main unit in the rear windshiled you will have a very hard time reaching the volume and squlech knob.
I like to turn my unit off sometimes and that to can only be done from the volume knob on the main unit. |
Typically the rule of thumb (haha quick mental flash of boondock saints) is for radar, put the detector as high as possible. For laser, put he detector as low as possible. This is because for radar, coming up over a hill, you'll catch it sooner in a higher position. In any other situation, it will easily catch the radar given its wide band, no matter where mounted.
For laser, they suggest low, because it is a narrow beem, and typically officers shoot for the front bumper, front plate, or head lights (ie the most reflective areas) Because of the narrow beam nature of laser, it is difficult for the detector to catch it the further up on the vehicle it is located. I personally have a radar detector perminentely mounted high up, just above my mirror. I have been in situations when I've been lasered, and the detector never went off. I knew this would be a sacrifice upon installation. My solution for the 8 is that I'm installing the SR7/ZR3 escort combo. (Also comes as SRX) This provides detection and jamming. And gives you the best of all worlds. |
so did he buy the concealed display? and did it look like it comes straight out of the cig lighter?
wait...excuse my noob retardedness but how'd you use a BADN saw? (rotary tool?)
band saw.. Hehehe :)
or a Jig saw... |
Band saw below. Uses one long blade that that is a continuous loop, kinda like a fan belt .
Scroll saw below. Uses a short blade that travels up and down.
hehe nice add omic
ok that's what i thought yuo meant but now im confused to how you got it started if it's in the center of the piece... wouldn't you have to cut INTO like from a side to get to teh center?
o wait....is that center piece an MP3 center piece like it had the mp3 option installed on your car?ad you jsut widened it?
P.S. any pics of jsut your car it's sounds to be a scik mofo and im excited about what it may look like
no you have to drill a whole in the middle first.. then if your using a scroll saw like i did you have to take the blade off the saw and feed it through the whole you drilled. then you reinstall the blade and make your cut...
but.. if you dont have a scroll saw. then use or rent a jig saw.. and get a fine tooth metal scroll blade for it. then you still drill a whole in the middel and start the jig say there. p.s. the blank peice is solid. no wholes at all.. I bought 2 extras from Trussvill Mazda so i would have one to mess up... but yes.. i had to cut the entire square whole.. |
