Trunk Plate/Amps
I have been looking around for a bit and was wondering if anyone has put up a DIY or has available a custom clear plastic trunk plate so i can put my amps in the depressed spot in the trunk and protect them whilst still being able to see them
I am replacing all of the sound components and think that this will be the best solution for the amp placement Thanks for any help/direction |
Doing something very similar in my 8. But I seriously doubt you're going to find anyone selling something. It's a custom job. Do not use cheap plain ol Plexi-glass. Use thick Lexan. They only sell this super thin crap at my local Lowes or Home Depot. Gonna have to hit up a specialty shop or shop online. For a nice thick sheet of Lexan just large enough for that area, you're looking to pay about $80 online. And that's unfinished. You're still gonna have to smooth it out/ finish it off exactly the way you want it. (Round the corners etc)

And then provide a outlet for hot air and a intake for cool air. Failuer to do so will send your amps into thermal protection and possibly damage them.

my amp and line driver have 1/2" of carpeted ply sitting almost right on top of them with no exhaust/intake points and have been pounding hard for months...?

Every piece of equipment is different.

If you are worried about heat - I suggest the Alpine PDX series of amps - I have the 1.1000 and the 4.150 and even with some heavy thumping they barely get hot to the touch.. when you consider that with their size, they are worth every penny.
